Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Tuesday, 12/07/10 and Wednesday, 12/08/10. ***** ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE ***** Due to the upcoming Holiday Break, the University of Texas Police Department would like to remind all Alarm Administrators to update their alarm information by December 20, 2010. Thank you for your assistance. ****Crime Alert**** The crime prevention unit received a web link for a news story from Channel 3 out of Memphis, Tennessee. The story involves electronic pick pocketing in which a thief armed with a card reader can obtain credit and identity information from radio frequency information devices such as credit cards, debit cards and even passports. The news story is well worth the watch and can be found at http://www.wreg.com/videobeta/?watchId=8ba6f8fc-90a2-4711-90ea-1884ec348310 INTRAMURAL FIELDS, 4901 Guadalupe Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT Police Officer discovered a red colored Ford truck parked next to the tennis court fence. A non-UT subject was found sleeping inside the bed of the truck. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 12-03-10, at 11:13 AM. LAVACA GARAGE, 210 West 6th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A grey Garmin GPS system was reported stolen from an unsecured tan colored Dodge truck. Loss value: $299.00. Occurred on: 12-07-10, between 7:30 AM and 4:45 PM. PARKING LOT 41, 2200 Block Red River Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT staff member discovered the driver’s side window of a blue Chevy Cobalt broken. The officer observed the dash had been disassembled. During the investigation, the officer learned a Pioneer stereo system had been removed from the vehicle. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred between: 12-02-10 and 12-07-10. 100 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Suspicious Activity: A UT student reported encountering a subject riding a bicycle he had purchased earlier in the semester. During the investigation, the reporting person stated he had emails from the suspect detailing the sell of the property. The bicycle was impounded by the police officer until the issue is resolved. Occurred on: 12-07-10, at 4:42 PM. 400 BLOCK WEST 39th STREET Harassment: A UT student reported having received several unwanted and offensive emails from a local on-line company. During the investigation, the officers learned a non-UT subject may have registered the victim in order to perpetuate a continuous stream of harassment. Reported on: 12-07-10, at 4:48 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 24 Alarm Calls, 3 Suspicious Activity Reports, 2 Light Malfunctions, and 2 Unsecured Doors reports between 12/07/10 and 12/08/10.
