Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 12/09/10 and Friday, 12/10/10. ***** ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE ***** Due to the upcoming Holiday Break, the University of Texas Police Department would like to remind all Alarm Administrators to update their alarm information by December 20, 2010. Thank you for your assistance. ****Crime Alert**** The crime prevention unit received a web link for a news story from Channel 3 out of Memphis, Tennessee. The story involves electronic pick pocketing in which a thief armed with a card reader can obtain credit and identity information from radio frequency information devices such as credit cards, debit cards and even passports. The news story is well worth the watch and can be found at http://www.wreg.com/videobeta/?watchId=8ba6f8fc-90a2-4711-90ea-1884ec348310 SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student, but not a SJH resident, was attempting to gain entry into the building. During the investigation, the student informed the officers that he had been to a downtown establishment and had taken part in some holiday cheer. The student decided he had wanted to spend the night with a friend The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and learned he was under the legal age of 21. The officers allowed the student to locate a sober friend and released him with a court appearance citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 12-10-10, at 3:40 AM. 100 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Theft from Person: A UT student approached a UT Police Officer and reported two non-UT subjects had just stolen her Apple iPhone. Several witnesses pointed the officers in the direction the subjects had gone. Responding officers located both subjects. One officer located the stolen iPhone and the suspect insisted the officers had planted the evidence on him. Both subjects were taken into custody for Theft from a Person and were transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 12-09-10, at 3:04 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: my hat is off to the countless witnesses that pointed the officers in the direction the suspects had run. Again I would like to thank the other witnesses that took the time to provide statements on this criminal offense. It takes everyone watching out for each other to prevent a criminal from being able to commit a crime. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 21 Alarm Calls, 2 Suspicious Activity Reports, 1 Light Malfunction, and 2 Unsecured Doors reports between 12/09/10 and 12/10/10.
