Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 12-23-10 and Monday, 01-03-11. BRACKENRIDGE APARTMENTS, 3350 Lake Austin Blvd. Disturbance: A UT student reported a verbal altercation between herself and the father of her child. One party had left the area prior to the arrival of the police officers. Occurred on: 12-26-10, at 12:25 PM. CREEKSIDE RESIDENCE HALL, 2501 San Jacinto Blvd. Suspicious Activity: A UT Police Officer discovered two self-locking cable locks had been cut and the bicycles were still in the bike racks. The bicycles were impounded by Parking and Transportation. Occurred on: 12-25-10, at 1:19 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: Several students asked Santa for a bicycle on Christmas so they can get around on campus faster….ie wake up later and still make it to class. Before you return for the Spring 2011 semester, take a minute and register your new bicycle with Parking and Transportation at www.utexas.edu/parking/transportation/biking/registration FACILITIES SERVICES-5, 1600 Manor Road Graffiti: Words and letters written in red spray paint were discovered on the south exterior wall of FC-5. Estimated loss: $200.00. Discovered on: 12-30-10, at 8:15 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Graffiti: An animal was drawn in red and silver ink on the exterior door located on the west side of the dormitory. Estimated loss: $50.00. Discovered on: 12-30-10, at 11:40 PM. PENICK-ALLISON TENNIS CENTER, 1701 Trinity Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT Police Officer discovered a laptop computer plugged into an exterior outlet. During a search of the area, a non-UT subject was discovered sitting inside the elevator. The subject was able to prove ownership of the laptop. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 12-25-10, at 8:57 AM. PETER T. FLAWN ACADEMIC CENTER, #2 West Mall Graffiti: Letters written in white ink were discovered on a table top located inside the lobby area. Estimated loss: $100.00. Discovered on: 12-29-10, at 12:38 AM. UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, 1616 Guadalupe Graffiti: Words written in black indelible ink were discovered on the north side of the building. Estimated loss: $30.00. Discovered on: 12-31-10, at 10:15 AM. REC SPORTS CENTER, 2001 San Jacinto Blvd. Public Intoxication: A UT student was discovered laying on top of a brick wall. The officer asked the student if he had been consuming any alcohol. With a thick tongued response, the student informed the officer that he had “2, 3, and 4” alcoholic beverages. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath. The student could not remember where he lived or where he had been, but knew it was two hours away. The student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 12-31-10, at 1:25 AM. 2500 BLOCK WICHITA Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student flagged down a UT Police Officer asking for help. The student was very emotional and informed the officer that he was lost and did not know how to get home. The officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the student’s breath. The officer asked for the student’s ID, the student realized he had lost his wallet. The officer learned the student was under the legal of 21, but due to the circumstances the student was encountering did not issue him a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. The officer assisted the student in getting home. Occurred on: 12-25-10, at 5:00 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 99 Alarm Calls, 7 Fire Alarms, 4 Call Box notifications, 44 Light Malfunctions, 5 Suspicious Activity Reports, 3 Suspicious Persons reports, 21 Public Assist Requests, and 29 Unsecured Door reports between 12/23/10 and 01/03/11. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that covers assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community.
