Report for 01/11/2011

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Monday, 01/10/11 and Tuesday, 01/11/11. PETER T. FLAWN ACADEMIC CENTER, #2 West Mall Theft: A tan colored Specialized mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the east side of the building after being secured with two self-locking cable locks. Loss value: $370.00. Occurred on: 1-10-11 between 4:15 PM and 4:30 PM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: Students are slowly returning back to campus, and as you can see so are the thieves. Bicycle theft is a big problem on any college campus. So much so that many students now view this theft as “The price for going to school.” This should not be the case. Just a few simple steps are needed to prevent your property from being stolen, but it requires you to take that next step. In the case above, the student did not know the serial number for his bike, but knew he needed to register his property. Prior to returning for the spring semester register your bicycle with Parking and Transportation. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 10 Alarm Calls, 2 Public Assistance Requests, 5 Burned Out Lights, and 3 Unsecured Door report between 01/10/11 and 01/11/11.
