Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Tuesday, 01/18/11 and Wednesday, 01/19/11. ALMETRIS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Theft: A blue and silver Rocky Mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building after being secured with an unknown style bike lock. Loss value: $900.00. Occurred between 1-16-11 and 1-18-11. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Harassment: A UT student reported receiving over 100 telephone calls and 60 text messages from a non-UT subject. Occurred on: 1-16-11. Crime Prevention Tip: These types of actions should be a concern to anyone. Since 2001 The University of Texas Police Department has offered a FREE Women’s Self Defense class called RAD. Please go on line to www.utexas.edu/police/RAD to register or contact Sgt Laura Davis at 232-9611. WEST MALL, 2300 Block Guadalupe SCAM ALERT Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject approached a UT student and talked her into buying two separate magazine subscriptions. The subject informed the student the magazines sales would help a charity that would be sending magazines to children’s hospitals as well as sending magazines to the soldiers in Iraq. After purchasing two subscriptions the student discovered the charity was scam. The non-UT subject was still on the West Mall attempting to make additional sales when the student confronted him demanding her money back. During the investigation, the officer issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning and assisted the student in getting a refund. Occurred on: 1-18-11, 3:55 PM. 600 WEST 6th STREET Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping inside an established campsite located on the south side of OHH. During the investigation the officers issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 1-19-11. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 39 Alarm Calls, 1 EMS Call, 1 Suspicious Activity Report, 1 Malfunctioning Light, and 2 Unsecured Door reports between 01/18/11 and 01/19/11.
