Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 01/21/11 and Monday, 01/24/11. BIOLOGY BUILDING, 205 West 24th Street Theft: A brown leather Dooney–Burke wallet containing several credit cards and personal identification was reported stolen from an unsecured 3rd floor office. Loss value: $20.00. Occurred on: 1-21-11, between 12:30 PM and 1:00 PM. CHILLING STATION #6, 217 East 24th Street Harassment: A UT staff member stated he had received a threatening telephone call from a former co-worker. The staff member stated the threats were directed at him as well as his family. During the investigation, the officer learned the suspect is attempting to get the staff member fired. Occurred on: 1-21-11, at 3:53 PM. ENGINEERING TEACHING CENTER, 204 East Dean Keeton Theft: A black leather wallet containing $60.00 in cash, several credit cards, personal identification, safety deposit key, and several checks was reported stolen from an unsecured 4th floor office. During the investigation, the officer learned the subject had left her property unsecured inside the office and had left the office unlocked several times prior to discovering her property missing. Loss value: $127.00. Occurred on: 1-21-11, between 8:45 AM and 12:01 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A blue Motobecane was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred on: 1-21-11, between 4:30 PM and 6:05 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member reported two non-UT subjects had entered the building without buying a guest pass. During the investigation, both subjects stated they were students at UT Dallas and did not know they had to buy a guest pass to enter the building. Both subjects were issued a verbal Criminal Trespass Warning and were escorted from the building. Occurred on: 1-21-11, at 6:08 PM. JESSE H. JONES COMMUNICATIONS BUILDING A, 2504-A Whitis Ave Theft: A blue Cannondale mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $900.00. Occurred on 1-18-11, between 9:30 AM and 2:00 PM. JESSE H. JONES COMMUNICATIONS BUILDING B, 2504-B Whitis Ave Criminal Trespass: A UT staff member discovered a non-UT subject sleeping on the 2nd floor of the building. The officer arrived and observed several empty beer cans laying around the subject. During the investigation, the officers soon learned the subject had received 9 prior Criminal Trespass Warning for a variety of campus buildings, as well as several arrests for Criminal Trespass. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued his 10th Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 1-22-11, at 1:39 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 210 East 21st Street Assault with Bodily Injury: A UT student reported being followed by an unknown subject as she made her way to the Art Building. While walking the unknown subject assaulted her. The victim began kicking the unknown subject and was able to get away. The unknown subject was described as wearing all black. Black pants, black hoodie, black shoes and black gloves. Occurred on: 1-19-11 at 12:30 PM, reported on 1-21-11, at 3:36 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: The student did a good job in getting away. As many women who have taken the RAD class have learned, escape is the ultimate goal. This student fought back, something that most attackers are not counting on. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 210 East 21st Street Possession of Marijuana / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: UT Police Officers responded to a 4th floor dormitory room after a UT staff member detected the odor of burning marijuana. During the investigation, the officers confirmed the odor of burning marijuana and as they were about to knock on the door, the door opened. Officers observed a UT student standing inside the room holding a marijuana cigarette. During the investigation, the officers discovered a second marijuana cigarette, surprisingly no one claimed it. Officers also discovered several open cans of beer. Occurred on: 1-23-11, at 3:45 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 210 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: A UT staff member discovered a highly intoxicated UT student inside the lobby area. During the investigation, the officer asked the student if he had been drinking, the student replied, “Obviously too much.” The officers noted a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath as well as other signs of intoxication. The officers allowed the student to contact a sober friend. Occurred on: 1-23-11, at 3:00 AM. PRATHER DORMITORY, 305 East 21st Street Suspicious Activity: A UT student discovered an unknown subject inside his dormitory room. The unknown subject was standing at his bed watering the sheets and comforter. The subject appeared to be extremely intoxicated and confused. The subject was last seen wearing a long sleeve green shirt. Occurred on: 1-23-11, at 4:55 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: There is now another good reason to keep your doors locked, even when you are inside your dormitory room. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Possession of Marijuana: A UT staff member detected the odor of burned marijuana on a group of students as they entered into the dormitory. During the investigation, the officers located the subjects inside a 4th floor dormitory room. The officers also detected a strong odor of marijuana and were able to locate a marijuana cigarette inside one of the subject’s backpack. The officers issued the student a field release citation for Possession of Marijuana. Occurred on: 1-23-11, at 1:45 AM. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Theft: A white Schwinn mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a U-shaped lock and self locking cable lock. During the investigation, the officer learned the student had secured the front tire to the bike rack with the U-shaped lock and secured the cable lock to the rear tire and bike frame. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred between: 1-20-11 and 1-22-11. Crime Prevention Tip: We do recommend a two-lock locking system. This system consists of the following locks: U-shaped lock that uses a flat key and a thick self-locking cable lock. The U-shaped lock is used to secure the bike frame to the bike rack. Front tires are not recommended since many bike tires are equipped with quick release features. The cable lock is used to secure the rear tire to the bike frame. 300 BLOCK EAST JESTER CIRCLE DR Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Police Officer observed two UT students, one of whom appeared to be in need of the support provided by a well placed trashcan, as the student was displaying the effects of an extreme physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol. During the investigation, the student informed the officers that he in fact felt “ill.” The officers detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted his red bloodshot and watery eyes. The officers determined the subject was under the legal age of 21 and issued him a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 1-22-11, at 3:00 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 31 Alarm Calls, 4 Malfunctioning Light,2 welfare concerns, 1 EMS Call, and 11 Unsecured Door report between 01/21/11 and 01/24/11.
