Crime Prevention Tip: Wow what a day, bike thieves 5 UTPD 1. All of the reported bike thefts have one common denominator…self-locking cable locks. Yes I know they are very convenient. Convenience does not equal security and the thieves rely on this little fact that most of us over look. We cannot stress it enough, U-shaped locks need to be used as your primary security device to lock your property to the bike rack. The cable lock should be used to prevent the thief from being able to ride off on your bike. Anything you do to slow the thief down provides more time for someone to detect a criminal act. You report that criminal act, we catch the thief, I will be calling you to ask you what type of pizza you would like to have delivered. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 28 Alarm Calls, 2 Suspicious Activity reports, 1 Malfunctioning Light, 2 welfare concerns, and 2 Unsecured Door report between 01/31/11 and 02/01/11.
