Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Wednesday, 02/02/11 and Thursday, 02/03/11. ALMETRIS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Theft / Criminal Trespass / Unlawful Use of Criminal Instrument: A UT Police Officer was notified that a non-UT subject had removed a bicycle was from the bike racks and was heading north along Guadalupe. During the investigation, the officers located the bicycle behind the Zeta Tau House, but the suspect was not seen. The suspect returned to collect the bike and officers stopped him. The subject was taken into custody for the theft. During a search of the subject officers found a pair of pliers as well as the lock that had been on the bike. The subject was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement actions taken, the subject was issued another written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 2-02-11, at 3:20 PM. ART BUILDING, 2301 San Jacinto Blvd. Graffiti: A UT Police Officer discovered an unknown subject had used indelible marker in a vain attempt to create a masterpiece. In the State of Texas, using indelible marker on a wall owned by another in a criminal offense commonly referred to as Graffiti and, doing so on UT property is a felony offence. The inspiring Picasso caused an estimated $300.00 damage in the three separate areas of the building. Discovered on: 2-03-11, at 3:29 AM. COMMUNICATIONS BUILDING A, 2504-A Whitis Ave Criminal Trespass: UT Police Officers observed a known offender sitting at a computer terminal located inside the 3rd floor lobby. The known offender observed the officers and quickly began to log off the computer as well as packing up his belongings. The officers noted the subject had a container with alcohol inside next to the computer he was working at. The officers took the subject into custody for Criminal Trespass and transported him to Central Booking after verifying he was not there for official business. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued another Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 2-02-1, at 9:00 AM. THE COMMONS BUILDING, PICKLE RESEARCH CENTER, 10 100 Burnet Rd. Burglary of Coin-Operated Machine: A UT staff member discovered a women’s hygiene machine had been pried open. During the investigation, the officer was unable to determine the amount of product or money that had been removed from the machine. Loss value: Unknown. Discovered on: 2-2-11 at 10:21 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 12 Alarm Calls, 2 Suspicious Activity reports, 2 welfare concerns, and 2 Unsecured Door report between 02/02/11 and 02/03/11.
