Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 02/04/11 and Monday, 02/07/11. ALMETRIS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member notified UT Police that a non-UT subject had gained entry into the building. The officers located the subject after he had left the building. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 2-04-11, at 11:16 PM. COMMUNICATIONS BUILDING A, 2504-A Whitis Ave Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported to be hanging out inside a restricted portion of the building. During the investigation, the officers located the subject as he was exiting. The subject informed the officers that he was watching the television to see about the weather and drink some water. The officers learned the subject had several prior Criminal Trespass Warnings for other areas of campus. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning for the building and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 2-05-11, at 6:53 PM. COMMUNICATIONS BUILDING A, 2504-A Whitis Ave Burglary of Coin-Operated Machine / Theft: An unknown subject notified the Austin Police Department about an abandoned vending machine. During their investigation, the machine was tracked back to the University of Texas. The Austin Police Department recovered a vending machine that had been assigned to the CMA Garage, the contents as well as the money had been removed from the machine. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Reported on 2-06-11, at 11:45 PM. FRANK EWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Theft: A black leather wallet containing, $240.00 in cash, personal identification, and several credit cards was reported stolen during an event at the FEC. During the investigation, the officers learned the wallet had been inside a closed backpack. The backpack had been inside an unsecured locker. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred on: 2-05-11, between 9:00 PM and 9:30 PM. GATEWAY APARTMENTS, 1618 West 6th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle / Criminal Mischief: A Sony AM/FM/CD player with a removable faceplate was reported stolen. Officers discovered the passenger window had been broken out. During the investigation, the officers discovered the trunk of a Acura open and the apparent attempt to remove the in-dash stereo system. Loss value: $100.00. Estimated Damage: $150.00. Discovered on: 2-06-11, at 10:30 AM. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 203 East 21st Street Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT staff member reported a strong odor of burning marijuana coming from a 6th floor dormitory room. The responding officers also detected a strong odor of burning marijuana coming from the same area the staff member had identified. The officers knocked on the dorm room door and when the UT student opened the door the officers observed a smoky haze inside the room. The student denied having been involved in any type of illegal activity, but retrieved a small glass pipe that contained burned marijuana residue inside the bowl. The officers issued the student a court appearance citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Occurred on: 2-06-11, at 10:19 PM. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 203 East 21st Street Disorderly Conduct- Fighting: A UT staff member reported two UT students had gotten into a fist-a-cuffs match while on the 8th floor. The staff member identified both parties and the officers located one of the subjects inside his room. The officers learned there had been some “tension” between both students and that they had passed each other inside a stairwell when the fight started. Occurred on: 2-06-11, at 4:02 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): A UT staff member was investigating the damage to the 12th floor when they observed a subject run down the hallway and locked himself into a 12th floor room. The staff members notified the UT Police when the student became uncooperative. During the investigation, the officers observed several empty bottles of whiskey inside the room and noted both residents were under the legal age 21. Both students were issued field release citations for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on2-06-11, at 4:46 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft / Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member reported the fire emergency sign, located on the 12th floor had been forcibly removed from the ceiling. Estimated Damage: Unknown at this time. Reported on: 2-06-11, at 4:46 AM. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Assault: UT Police Officers responded to the 1st level of the parking garage on a reported assault. During the investigation, the officers learned an unknown subject had knocked a student down then began kicking him. The unknown subject was described as: White male, 5’-10”, thin build, short blond hair. The subject was last seen wearing a blue long sleeve shirt. Occurred on: 2-06-11, at 2:40 AM. The UT Police Department is requesting anyone with information regarding this assault to contact UTPD at 471-4441 or make an anonymous tip at our website: www.utexas.edu/police SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: UT Police officers responded to a report of an intoxicated student that was injured. During the investigation, the officers located the student and detected a very strong odor of alcohol on his breath. The student had a large cut on the back of his head and was missing a shoe. The student explained he had slipped on a patch of ice. Austin EMS treated the student at the scene and transported him to a local area hospital. Occurred on: 2-05-11, at 2:27 AM. 2200 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Possession of Dangerous Drugs / Public Intoxication / Failure to Identify: A UT Police Officer was hailed by a taxi driver after he had dropped off a passenger that did not know where she lived. The officers located the subject in the 2200 Block of San Jacinto. The subject identified herself as a UT student that lived in College Station. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and asked her if there was anyone that could come and take her home. The student replied, “No one was sober enough to get her.” The subject was very confused as to her location, date, time and where she had been. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication. During a search incidental to her arrest, the officers located her correct Texas Driver’s License along with a white pill that was later identified as Hydrocodone. Additional charges of Possession of Controlled Substance and Failure to Identify were filed. The student was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 2-05-11, at 12:54 AM. 2600 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Public Intoxication: A UT student was discovered passed out next to a tree. The student did not respond to any commands and remained unresponsive. Austin EMS treated the subject at the scene and transported her to a local area hospital. Occurred on: 2-06-11, at 12:40 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 63 Alarm Calls, 2 Fire Alarms, 2 Call Box Activations, 2 Burned Out Lights, 4 Suspicious Activity reports, 2 Welfare Concerns, and 17 Unsecured Door reports between 02/04/11 and 02/07/11.
