Crime Prevention Tip: There are three things a thief needs in order to be successful, desire, ability and the opportunity. As we all are aware of, there is nothing we can do to do diminish a thief’s desire or ability to commit a crime. What we all can do if reduce or eliminate the opportunity for that thief to commit a crime. Quick reporting reinforces the thief’s knowledge that he will have a hard time committing a crime at this location since everyone is watching. To the staff members at the Law School, good job in keeping a watchful eye out. W.C. HOGG, #4 East Mall Possession of Marijuana: A UT student, riding a bicycle, passed two UT Police Officers walking. As the student pasted the officer a metal object fell out of his pocket and hit the sidewalk spilling its contents onto the ground. The officers picked up the object, which happened to be a grinder containing marijuana. The student stopped and turned around to claim the metal grinder, not knowing the contents had already been revealed. The officers confiscated the grinder minus the contents since the contents had blown away into the wind. The student was issued a referral to the Dean of Student’s Office. The officer learned the driver of the vehicle had gone to 6th Street to retrieve an intoxicated friend. On their way home, the friend had a sudden urge to have an extreme physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol.
