Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 02/11/11 and Monday, 02/14/11. BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING BUILDING, 107 West Dean Keeton Street Criminal Mischief: Markings in white shoe polish, on the window by the northeast entry of the building, were reported to UTPD. Occurred between: 02-10-11, 8:30 AM and 02-11-11, 10:00 AM. #2 West Mall Theft: A UT Student reported his secured Trek Mountain Bicycle and bicycle lock were stolen from the bike rack on the southeast corner of the Flawn Academic Center. Fair market value for bicycle and lock: $80.00. Occurred between: 02-10-11, at 7:30 PM and 02-11-11 at 7:00 AM 2200 Robert Dedman Drive Graffiti: Some unknown subject or subjects used a white indelible marker to make markings on 2 light poles without the effective consent of The University of Texas at Austin. Estimated cleanup cost: $200.00. Discovered on: 2-12-11, at 1:20 AM. 200 East Block of 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Police Officer observed a UT Student having a very hard time walking straight. The student stumbled and swayed to the point that he walked into a bike rack. Since the student was under the age of 21 and the officer could detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath he was issued a citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 02-12-11, at 1:28 AM. 2000 Block Speedway Avenue Public Intoxication/Possession Fictitious Driver License/Assist other Agency: A UT Police Officer observed a Non-UT subject passed out next to a tree. The officer approached the subject, woke him up, and told him he was with the police department. The subject woke up and stated he was the police department. The subject had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath, didn’t know where he was, and couldn't stand up without support from a tree. The officer determined the subject was a danger to himself as well as to others after noting all of the different signs of intoxication. After a warrant check, the subject had 5 confirmed outstanding warrants. He also had a fictitious driver license with a date of birth that purported him to be over the legal drinking age of 21. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication/Warrants and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 02-12-11, at 2:03 AM. 100 West 21st Street Public Intoxication: A UTPD Guard reported a very intoxicated subject being carried by two other people on the north side of the University Teaching Center. The intoxicated subject was a UT Student celebrating his 21st birthday. He could not walk, stand, or sit on his own. His clothes were covered in vomit and he was also having a wardrobe malfunction. The UT Student was released to EMS and transported to the hospital for possible alcohol poisoning. A copy of the report was sent to the Dean of Student’s Office. Occurred on: 02-12-11, at 2:36 AM. 2000 Block Speedway Avenue Assault: A Non-UT subject was arrested for the offense of Assault involving Dating Violence by causing bodily injury to her ex-boyfriend. Occurred on: 02-12-11, at 3:11 AM. 2900 Block San Jacinto Boulevard Driving While Intoxicated: A UT Police Officer observed a Toyota 4 door passenger car swerve to the right of the lane and miss a parked car by approximately 2 feet. The driver thought it was 1:30 in the morning. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety test to the non-UT driver. The subject displayed a number of clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 02-13-11, at approximately 9:20 PM. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Public Intoxication and Possession of Fictitious Driver License: Residential Assistants found a UT Student passed out outside and escorted him inside the dorm. They called UTPD once the student threatened them with violence. The subject stated he would shoot them with his gun that he kept in his dorm room. As officers went to his dorm room, they found a second UT Student passed out on the floor in the hallway. The 2 UT students were arrested for Public Intoxication and 1 also had a fictitious driver license with a date of birth that purported him to be over the legal drinking age of 21. After subsequent investigation, a weapon was not found. Occurred on: 02-13-11 at approximately 12:30 AM. O. HENRY HALL, 100 West 6th Street Tampering with or Fabrication of Physical Evidence (1); Manufacture or Delivery of Substance in Penalty Group 1 (3); Possession of Substance in Penalty Group 3 (1); Resisting Arrest, Search, or Transportation (1); Possession of Marijuana equal to or less than 2oz (3): A UTPD Guard observed a Non-UT subject inject a hypodermic needle into one of his arms. Once officers arrived on scene, 3 Non-UT subjects were arrested and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 02-13-11, at approximately 2:15 AM. WENDYS, 201 East 21st Street Theft of Service <$20: A UT Student stole PowerAde from the beverage machine. He used the designated “water cup” for a beverage instead of water. Once confronted by a UT Police Officer, the student paid for the drink. A copy of the report will be sent to the Dean of Student’s Office. Occurred on: 02-13-11, at approximately 2:57 AM. WENDYS, 201 East 21st Street Theft of Service <$20: A UT Student stole lemonade from the beverage machine. She used the designated “water cup” for a beverage instead of water. Once confronted by a UT Police Officer, the student paid for the drink. A copy of the report will be sent to the Dean of Student’s Office. Occurred on: 02-13-11, at approximately 3:25 AM. SANCHEZ BUILDING, 1912 Speedway Avenue Graffiti: Some unknown subject or subjects used a green paint pen to mark on the northwest side of the building without the effective consent of The University of Texas at Austin. Estimated cleanup cost: $100.00. Occurred between: 02-12-11, at 3:00 PM and 02-13-11, at 9:50 AM. 2400 Block San Jacinto Boulevard Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a Non-UT subject hugging a stop sign for support. Once approached, the subject was unable to stand without support and he also thought it was 4-5 AM. The officer determined the subject was a danger to himself as well as to others after noting all of the different signs of intoxication. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 02-14-11, at 2:50 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 55 Alarm Calls, 6 Sick/Ill Person Calls, 3 Welfare Concern Calls, 2 Lighting Problem Surveys, 1 Key Assist, 2 Unsecured Doors, 1 False 911 Call, 1 Noise Complaint, 1 Trash Can Fire, 1 Elevator Call, and 1 Smell of Marijuana Call between 02/11/11 and 02/14/11. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that cover assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
