During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and learned she was under the legal age of 21. The student was issued a court appearance citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and was released to a sober friend. Occurred on: 2-18-11, at 3:00 AM. 200 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed two staggering and swaying UT students. The officer watched as one student needed the assistance of a properly placed stop sign pole to help fight the effects of gravity and maintain his balance. The second student thought this was a Kodak moment (or facebook for our younger readers) and began taking pictures of his friend hanging onto the pole. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breaths of both students. The officer began asking them where they were coming from and how they had gotten back to campus. It became apparent the intoxicating elixirs the students had consumed had not only impacted their ability to walk, but also their memories. One claimed to have ridden a bus while the other stated they had walked. Both could not remember where they had been drinking. Both subjects were taken into custody for Public Intoxication and were transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 2-18-11, at 3:08 AM.
