Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 02/18/11 and Monday, 02/21/11. ANDREWS DORMITORY, 2401 Whitis Ave Graffiti: A UT student reported discovering a word and a design that had been created in red chalk near the south side of the building. Estimated loss value: $5.00. Discovered on: 2-19-11, at 4:15 PM. ENGINEERING TEACHING CENTER, 204 East Dean Keeton Theft: A black Panasonic HD camera with a 72 mm UV lens along with a wireless microp lavalier was reported stolen from an unsecured 4th floor production room. During the investigation, the reporting person stated he had encountered an unknown subject inside the production room. The subject was bent over going through a camera bag. A short time later a second staff member observed the same subject attempt to enter a 5th floor office. The subject poked his head into the office, saw the staff member then left the area. The unknown subject was described as: Hispanic male, 40 years of age, 5’-5”, stocky build, short black hair, broad nose with pock marked cheeks. Loss value: $3,658.00. Occurred on: 2-18-11, between 12:01 PM and 12:10 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Disorderly Conduct- Abuse or Threatens: A UT staff member reported several students were in the process of starting a fight. During the investigation, the suspect stated two students were attempting to start the fight with him based of his nationality. The officers located a witness who stated the suspect had approached the two students and began pushing them and calling them names. The suspect was issued a field release citation for Disorderly Conduct. Occurred on 2-19-11, at 3:35 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A grey sweater, black sweater and a grey hoodie were taken from a dryer located on the 2nd floor. Loss value: $30.00. Occurred on: 2-18-11, between 12:01 PM and 10:00 PM. KINSOLVING DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Ave Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member discovered a tire on a UT owned van had been slashed. The officers observed a one inch slash inside the sidewall of the tire. Estimated damage: $75.00. Discovered on: 2-19-11, at 6:11 AM. 1800 BLOCK GUADALUPE Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): A UT Police Officer observed a vehicle travelling the wrong way on a posted one-way street. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the non-UT driver’s breath. The officer soon learned the driver was under the legal age of 21 and had been consuming adult beverages at an unknown location. The officer did not observe any other signs of intoxication and issued the subject a court appearance citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. During the investigation, the officers determined both passengers inside the vehicle had also consumed adult beverages and were also under the legal age of 21. Both non-UT passengers were issued court appearance citations and were released at the scene. Occurred on: 2-20-11, at 2:29 AM. 1900 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a UT student stagger into the roadway, then stumble out of the roadway, then lose his fight against gravity and fall onto the sidewalk. During the investigation, the student informed the officer that his reason he had difficultly walking was because he had “drank too much.” The student did not know where he was or what time of the day. The student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 2-19-11, at 3:28 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 65 Alarm Calls, 5 Suspicious Activity Reports, 3 Suspicious Persons Reports, 3 EMS calls, and 31 Unsecured Door Reports between 02/18/11 and 02/21/11.
