Report for 02/22/2011

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Monday, 02/21/11 and Tuesday, 02/22/11. UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATIVE BUILDING, 16161 Guadalupe Criminal Trespass Warning: Two non-UT subjects were discovered sleeping inside one sleeping bag behind a retaining wall located on the east side of the building. During the investigation, the subjects informed the officers they were trying to get out of the cold weather. The subjects were issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and were escorted from the area. Occurred on: 2-22-11, at 2:33 AM. 2200 BLOCK GUADALUPE Assist Outside Agency: A UT Police Officer saw a non-UT subject walk up to another non-UT subject and began hitting her. The responding officers separated both combatants. After being separated, the officers discovered one subject was bleeding and notified Austin EMS. The subject was transported to a local area hospital. As the investigation continued, the officers soon discovered the main combatant had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant for Aggressive Solicitation. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 2-21-11, at 1:23 PM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: There are a number of cellular telephones that are reported to UTPD as well as to APD. I learned a new trick about my cell phone that I want to pass along to you: How to Disable a Stolen Cellular Telephone To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: *#06#. A 15-digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. If your phone is stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 13 Alarm Calls, 2 Suspicious Persons Reports, 1 EMS call, 2 Malfunctioning Light Reports, and 8 Unsecured Door Reports between 02/21/11 and 02/22/11.
