Report for 02/25/2011

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 02/24/11 and Friday, 02/25/11. ***** ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE ***** Earlier this week I posted a Crime Prevention Tip that explained how you can disable your cellular telephone when it is stolen. I received several emails from the readers stating the code did not work on their cellular telephone. I called several of the service providers and learned the following: If entering the *#06# into your cell phone does not work, remove your battery from your phone. Inside the battery compartment you will see a sticker. Look for ESN or ESN HEX followed by a 15 different letters and numbers. This is the same code the *#06# code would display on the phone. Write this number down, and notify your carrier if your cellular telephone is stolen. ALMETRIUS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Theft / Criminal Trespass / Unlawful Use of Criminal Instrument: The UT Police Department received information that a non-UT subject had removed a black mountain bicycle from the bike racks located on the northeast corner of the building. The officers located the subject in the 1500 Block of Lavaca. The subject was still in possession of the mountain bicycle. The subject was taken into custody for Theft. During the investigation, the officers learned the subject had been issued a prior written Criminal Trespass Warning. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Additional charges of Criminal Trespass and Unlawful Use of Criminal Instrument were filed. Occurred on: 2-24-11, at 8:59 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: UT Police Officers responded to a 2nd floor dormitory room on a report of burning marijuana inside the room. During the investigation, the officers located two non-UT subjects and two UT students inside the room. The odor of burned marijuana still lingered inside the room even after the door was left open. One non-UT subject explained to the officers that the odor maybe from when he had consumed marijuana earlier in the day. The officers discovered the subject had two metal pipes with burned marijuana residue in the bowls. The pipes were confiscated and the subject was issued a court appearance citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Occurred on: 2-24-11, at 9:21 PM. SOUTHMALL, 100 West Mall Public Intoxication / Possession of Fictitious Driver’s License (2 Counts): A UT Police Officer observed two UT students supporting each other as they attempted to maintain their balance. Both were stumbling and staggering back and forth and fell onto the concrete benches. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breaths of both students and noted other signs of intoxication. When asked for identification, one student handed the officer a fictitious Driver’s License that purported the student to be older then he was. The second student stated he had done nothing wrong and wanted to leave. As the investigation continued the officer was not able to verify the information the students had provided, both claimed to be 21 and 22 years of age and first year freshmen at UT. Both students were taken into custody for Public Intoxication and Possession of a Fictitious Driver’s License. Occurred on: 2-25-11, at 2:10 AM. WALTER WEBB HALL, 2500 Guadalupe Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed sitting along the east exterior wall holding a sign asking for money. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 2-24-11, at 6:00 PM. 2400 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out and laying across the sidewalk in a pool of water. Since it was not raining nor was the UT irrigation system operating at that time, the officer realized the subject’s personal irrigation system was fully functional. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath. After waking the subject up, the subject informed the officers he was waiting for the bus and believed he was at a location 3 miles away. The subject handed the officers a folded piece of paper that contained the subject’s identification and a small unusable amount of marijuana. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. The officers soon discovered the subject had several outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants. Occurred on: 2-25-11, at 1:35 AM.
