Report for 03/10/2011

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Wednesday, 03/09/11 and Thursday, 03/10/11. ***** ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE ***** We are1 day away before the beginning of Spring Break 2011. South Padre Island, Port Aransas, Gulf Port and Dolphin Island are only a few Spring Break locations on the minds of UT Students. The local police departments are gearing up with directed patrols and additional officers working the crowded beaches. They will be looking for underage drinking and other alcohol violations while you are in their jurisdiction. Yesterday, APD had requested the following information to be passed along to the UT students living in the West Campus and Riverside areas. These are areas of concern due to historical increases in property crimes during Spring Break. Many students could return home to find their apartments or vehicles broken into. Take a few minutes and remove all of your personal property from your vehicle: CDs, GPS, GPS mount, money and personal papers. These items attract thieves. Before walking away from your apartment, ensure all windows and doors are locked. If you have a friend staying in town ask them to check on your property. The UT Police Department encourages all students to register and engrave their property. You can go to www.utexas.edu/police/property to register your property on line. Engraving your property with your State issued driver’s license number makes it that much harder for a thief.
