Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 03/11/11 and Monday, 03/14/11. ***** ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE ***** As you have seen over the last few days there has been an increase in the number of Burglary of Motor Vehicles parked near the Baseball Stadium and Softball Stadium. The UT Police Department would like to remind everyone to hide all of your valuables inside the vehicle. Do not leave GPS mounts in plain view. The most common item being taken is loose change inside the ashtray or cup holder. Remove all unnecessary items like loose change from your vehicle. The UT Police Department would like to encourage everyone to report suspicious activity you see near or within the parking lots and parking garages. BENEDICT HALL, #7 South Mall Graffiti: Words written in black marker were discovered inside a 2nd floor men’s restroom. Estimated repair: $50.00. BRAZOS PARKING GARAGE, 200 East Martin Luther King Blvd. Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was discovered passed out in the backseat of vehicle parked as well as a second subject in the passenger’s seat. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol as they approached the vehicle. The student informed the officers that they were waiting on her roommate to let them into the dormitory since she had forgotten her UTID card. The officer noted the student’s eyes were bloodshot and very red as well as a persistent odor of alcohol on the student’s breath. The officer asked the student if she had been drinking alcohol. The student denied any alcohol involvement. When asked again, the student replied, “Not that much.” The officer determined the student was under the legal age of 21 and issued her a court appearance citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. The other subject was over the age of 21 and was not intoxicated. Occurred on: 3-13-11, at 5:11 AM. BRAZOS PARKING GARAGE, 200 East Martin Luther King Blvd. Burglary of Motor Vehicle (Criminal Episode): UT Police Officers discovered the rear windows of four separate vehicles broken out. The officers were unable to make contact with the owners at the time of discovery. Later on the officer learned a GPS system had been stolen from one of the vehicles. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Estimated repair value per vehicle: $150.00. Discovered on: 3-12-11, at 4:01 AM. CLAUDIA TAYLOR JOHNSON, 201 West 6th Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed rummaging through a trashcan collecting cans. When stopped the subject informed the officers that he has permission from the building manager to collect cans from the trashcan years ago. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 3-12-11, at 8:29 AM ENGINEERING SCIENCE BUILDING, 2501 Speedway Theft: A Samsung cellular telephone was reported stolen after being left unattended inside a 2nd floor office. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred on: 3-12-11, between 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT student entered the building without purchasing a day pass or showing his UTID. The officers located the subject playing on a basketball court. The subject was issued a verbal Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the building. Occurred on: 3-10-11, at 10:40 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Suspicious Person: A UT staff member reported an unknown subject followed a current UT student into the dormitory and refused to swipe his access card. The officers searched the area with negative results. The unknown subject was described as: Tall Black male, last seen wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. Occurred on: 3-13-11, at 5:41 AM. PARKING LOT 39, 2300 Block Red River Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT Police Officer discovered the passenger side window of a blue Chevy truck broken. The officer was unable to determine what personal property was missing from the vehicle. Officers were able to contact the owner later in the day and learned no personal property was missing from the vehicle. Estimated repair: $150.00. Discovered on: 3-12-11, at 2:30 AM. PARKING LOT 103, 2100 Comal Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT Police Officer discovered the driver’s side window of a Toyota broken. The officers observed a mount on the dashboard and a power cord still plugged in, but the Magellan GPS device was missing. Loss value: $100.00. Estimated repair value: $150.00. Discovered on: 3-11-11, at 7:39 AM. PARKING LOT 115, 2000 Block Leona Assist Outside Agency / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: UT Police Officers observed a subject walking through the parking lot, then attempted to leave the area when he saw a marked police vehicle. The subject informed the officers that he was walking to a store and that he had just gotten off work. During the investigation the officers learned the subject had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant. During a search of the subject after being arrested, the officers located a small glass pipe that contained burned marijuana residue inside the bowl. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-12-11, at 10:50 PM. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject had attempted to enter as a guest and was denied entry. The non-UT subject became very upset with the staff member. During the investigation the non-UT subject denied having become upset. The subject was issued a verbal Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 3-12-11, at 3:52 AM. THOMPSON CONFERNCE CENTER, 2405 Red River Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed looking into vehicles parked in Parking Lots 37-39. The subject was located and informed the officers he did not have any identification on him. After being given permission to search him, officers located the subject’s State issued ID he then informed the officers that he forgot he had it on him. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. The subject is described as a black male, 21 years of age, 5’-08” 225 pounds. Occurred on: 3-11-11, at 4:04 PM. 2100 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Driving While Intoxicated / Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a Honda travelling through campus without its headlamps turned on. During the traffic investigation, the officers detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath. As the non-UT driver was exiting the vehicle, he lost his balance. The driver informed the officers that the passenger inside the vehicle was in fact the owner of the vehicle. He was driving because the passenger was too drunk to drive himself. The officers administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The non-UT driver displayed several clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. The passenger was also taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-12-11, at 10:59 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 45 Alarm Calls, 6 Call Box Alarms, 2 Welfare Concerns, 2 Suspicious Activity Reports, 2 Suspicious Persons Reports, 2 Malfunctioning Light report, and 15 Unsecured Door Reports between 03/11/11 and 03/1/11.
