Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 03/24/11 and Friday, 03/25/11. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: A UT staff member discovered a UT student passed out on the 5th floor. During the investigation, the officer attempted to get a response from the student. The student opened his eyes, leaned forward and created a splash zone that would have made Shamu proud. After creating this splash zone, the student closed his eyes and passed out. Austin EMS was notified and treated the student at the scene for alcohol poisoning and transported him to a local area hospital for additional treatment. A summons for Public Intoxication was issued to the student. Occurred on: 3-25-111, at 1:55 AM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Theft: The rear wheel of a black Kenda Kwest bicycle was reported stolen after the bicycle had been secured to the bike racks located on the northeast side of the building. Loss value: $20.00. Occurred on: 3-24-11, between 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM. 400 BLOCK WEST 26th STREET Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer discovered a UT student staggering back and forth as he attempted to navigate the straight contours of the sidewalk. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath. When asked if he knew where he was, in formed the officers that he was at the intersection of 26th Street and Jack in a Box. While being geographically correct, the student was unaware of his location. The student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-25-11, at 1:44 AM. 800 BLOCK COLORADO Public Intoxication (2 Counts) / Resisting Arrest: A UT staff member discovered a non-UT subject laying on the sidewalk passed out. A second non-UT subject was standing over her. During the investigation, the officers learned the subject had passed out and had hit her head on the sidewalk. Austin EMS arrived and treated the subject at the scene and transported her to a local area hospital. As the investigation continued, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the second subject’s breath and observed her swaying back and forth as she stood next to her friend’s vehicle. The subject became belligerent and informed the officers that she intended to drive her friend’s vehicle home. The officers observed several signs of intoxication and took the subject into custody for Public Intoxication. The subject began resisting as the officers were taking her into custody. Once in custody the subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 3-25-11, at 1:54 AM. 2100 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer discovered a UT student passed out on the steps between the West Mall Building and Goldsmith Hall. As the officer was stopping his patrol vehicle the student stood up and decided to start running. His running ability was best described to be a mixture of stumbling, staggering and a whole lot of swaying back and forth. The officer located the subject staggering to a point he was having a hard time remaining up-right. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath. The student informed the officer he had been to several downtown establishments and had consumed “a lot.” He then informed the officers that he was on his way to visit a friend and all of his friends were female. Since it was past guest hours, the student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking to visit our friends for awhile. Occurred on: 3-25-11, at 2:30 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 13 Alarm Calls, 1 Fire, 2 Welfare Concern, 4 EMS Calls, 2 Suspicious Persons Reports, and 2 Unsecured Door Reports between 03/24/11 and 03/25/11.
