Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Wednesday, 04/06/11 and Thursday, 04/07/11. ERWIN SPECIAL EVENTS CENTER, 1701 Red River Assault with Injuries: A UT staff member reported two subjects were involved in a fight inside Section 91 of the ERC. During the investigation, the officers learned the suspect, identified as a UT student, had been kicking the back of the victim’s chair, spilled beer down his back, and knocked hot cigarette ash onto his arm. The suspect then placed his boot on the back of the victim’s chair. When asked to remove his offending foot, the suspect kicked the right side of the victim’s face, causing injury. The suspect was taken into custody for Assault with Injury and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-6-11, at 11:19 PM. ERWIN SPECIAL EVENTS CENTER, 1701 Red River Public Intoxication (2 Counts): A UT staff member reported two non-UT subjects were arguing with each other inside Section 48. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on both subjects’ breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The officers learned one subject was upset because the other subject had gotten “sloppy” drunk while at the concert. While in the process of ejecting both subjects from the building, one subject began berating the other. The Poker-Face officers took both subjects into custody for Public Intoxication, not Bad Romance, and transported them to Central Booking in separate vehicles. Occurred on: Occurred on: 4-06-11, at 9:42 PM. ERWIN SPECIAL EVENTS CENTER, 1701 Red River Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer responded to the concourse area on a report of a fight in progress. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breath of the combative subject and noted other signs of intoxication. The officers attempted to locate the subject’s husband to no avail. The subject refused to assist the officers by calling her husband on her cell phone. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-06-11, at 8:58 PM. GOLDSMITH HALL, #5 West Mall Theft: A black bicycle with an orange seat was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building. It is unknown if the bicycle was secured to the racks or not. Loss value: $350.00. Occurred on: 4-06-11, at 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM. 700 BLOCK LAVACA Suspicious Person / Assist Outside Agency: A UT staff member observed an unknown subject walking through one of the UT Systems parking garages carrying a black purse. The subject was then observed standing next to a trash dumpster while rummaging through the purse. During the investigation, the officers located the black leather purse as well as a Texas Driver’s license. The officers soon learned the purse had been reported stolen earlier in the day. Occurred on: 4-06-11, 7:30 PM. 1900 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: An unidentified subject flagged down a UT Police Officer and informed the officer that two non-UT subjects were squaring off to fight. During the investigation, one non-UT subject insisted he was going to fight the other subject and refused to comply with the officer’s commands to sit. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the combative subject’s breath and observed other signs of intoxication. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-06-11, at 7:27 PM. 2300 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Theft: A black Giant mountain bicycle was reported stolen after being secured to the bike racks with a U-shaped lock. During the investigation, the victim informed the officer he has secured the front tire and rim to the bike rack with a recommended U-shaped lock. The officer verified the bike tire was still secure to the rack, however the other parts of the bike were gone due to the quick release feature on the front tire. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred on: 4-06-11, between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 16 Alarm Calls, 1 EMS call, 1 Suspicious Person Reports, 2 Suspicious Activity Reports, and 1 Unsecured Door Report between 04/06/11 and 04/07/11.
