Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 04/07/11 and Friday, 04/08/11. COMMUNICATIONS BUILDING-A, 2504-A Whitis Ave Suspicious Person: An unknown subject approached students and staff members located on the fifth floor and began asking them for used textbooks. One staff member recognized the subject’s MO (modus operandi) that had been reported in the Campus Watch and notified the Police Department. During the investigation, the officers searched the area with negative results. The unknown subject was described as: Black male, short, 40 years of age, bald with a muscular build. The unknown subject was last seen wearing a blue and white shirt. Occurred on: 4-07-11, at 2:02 PM. DOTY FINE ARTS BUILDING, 2301 Trinity Graffiti: Words along with pictures were discovered written and drawn inside several men’s restrooms. The inspiring Van Gogh used red, purple, and black permanent markers to damage the walls. Estimated repair: $500.00 Discovered on: 4-07-11, at 8:00 AM. INTRAMURAL FIELDS, 4900 Block Guadalupe Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A pink backpack containing a Dell laptop computer was removed from a red Ford Mustang without the owner’s consent. During the investigation, the officer learned the victim heard her vehicle car alarm going off and observed a black sedan driving away. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred on: 4-06-11, between 1:50 PM and 3:30 PM. JACKSON SCHOOL OF GEOLOGY, #10 East Mall Theft: A blue leather wallet containing $43.00 in cash, personal identification and several credit cards was reported stolen. During the investigation, the officer learned the wallet had been left inside a closed purse. The victim had stored her purse inside an unsecured desk located inside and unsecured 6th floor office. Loss value: $47.00. Occurred between 4-06-11 and 4-07-11. Location Unknown Theft: A silver Apple laptop computer and a black Logiteck computer case were reported stolen after being left unattended on a UT shuttle bus. When the student realized he had left his property on the bus, the bus had already driven off to it’s next location. Loss value: $1,620.00. Occurred on: 4-7-11. PERRY-CASTENEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass: Several UT students reported a suspicious person walking in and out of the library cursing them as they walked by. During the investigation, the officers located the subject as he again entered into the library. The subject informed the officers that he was there to read a book. The officers learned the subject had received a prior written Criminal Trespass Warning. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued another written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 4-07-11, at 9:29 PM. MIKE MYERS STADIUM, 707 Clyde Littlefield Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject entered into the Track Field House and began causing a disturbance with the officials working the Texas Relays. The subject was escorted from the area. Track officials then observed the same subject inside the athlete warm-up area pretending to be warming up for a race while wearing street clothes. During the investigation, the officers located the subject as he was leaving the stadium area waving to the officers. The subject informed the officers he was a former football player and had been invited into the Track Field House by an unknown athlete then onto the field by an unknown official. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 4-7-11, at 4:00 PM. 2700 BLOCK Guadalupe Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer discovered a UT student passed out on a bench inside a restaurant. The officer had a difficult time waking the student up. During the investigation, the student informed the officers that she was inside a downtown location and that all of her friends were with her. The student was unable to provide any names of her friends to the officer. As the investigation continued, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The student was confused and incoherent. The student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-08-11, at 4:00 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 14 Alarm Calls, 2 EMS calls, 1 Suspicious Person Reports, and 12 Unsecured Door Report between 04/07/11 and 04/08/11.
