Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 04/08/11 and Monday, 04/11/11. ***** ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE ***** UTPD is asking the community for help in identifying a suspect in an early Sunday morning burglary case. A female student reported waking up to a man on her bed in her Moore-Hill dorm room shortly after 3:00 am on April 10, 2011. The suspect was described as an Asian male, with short straight black hair wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts. Anyone with information pertaining to this burglary or the identification of the suspect in the case is asked to contact UTPD at 471-4441 or Criminal Investigations Unit Sergeant Chris Bonnet at 232-9639. BRACKENRIDGE APARTMENTS, 3350 Lake Austin Blvd. Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sitting inside a gazebo. The subject informed the officers he and a group of friends were lost and did not know where they were. After being given directions, the subjects were issued a verbal Criminal Trespass Warnings and were escorted from the area. Occurred on: 4-09-11, at 7:14 PM. COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, 2110 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject approached a UT staff member and began rambling about why he was mad at UT and the US Government. The subject was located inside a lower level classroom. The subject informed the officers he was asking for information on how to register for classes. The subject was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 4-08-11, at 5:00 PM. ENGINEERING TEACHING CENTER, 204 East Dean Keeton Theft: A black leather wallet containing $24.00 in cash, several credit cards and personal identification was reported stolen from an unknown location. Loss value: $30.00. Occurred on: 4-08-11 between, 12:01 PM and 4:30 PM. GOLDSMITH HALL, #5 West Mall Theft / Driving While License Invalid / Possession of More than One DL: The UT Police Department received information that a mountain bicycle had been removed from the bike racks located on the east side of the building. Additional information led officers to the 1300 Block of Crossing Place. Officers observed the mountain bicycle inside the vehicle after the vehicle had entered into the apartment complex. During the investigation, the officers removed the driver and took him into custody for Theft. As the investigation continued, the officers soon discovered the UT student was in possession of a Driver’s License that was not issued to him and that his DL was invalid. The student was taken into custody for Theft and was transported to Central Booking. Recovered value: $1,350.00. Occurred on: 4-11-11, at 3:06 AM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A dark blue bag containing a black leather wallet, $9.00 in cash, several credit cards, personal identification and a black Apple iPhone was reported stolen after being left unattended and unsecured next to the basketball courts. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred on: 4-08-11 between 6:30 PM and 7:40 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: Rec Sports staff members have placed several signs in and around the area of the gym where most of these thefts have occurred. It simply amazed me when I saw the picture which I have attached to the Campus Watch. All Aggie jokes aside, these are UT students. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed entering the building without purchasing a day pass. The officers located the subject and issued him a verbal Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted him from the building. Occurred on: 4-08-11, at 5:25 PM. INTRAMURAL FIELDS, 4901 Guadalupe Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT student reported an unknown subject had entered his unsecure vehicle and had removed his wallet insert containing his personal identification and several credit cards. Occurred on: 4-08-11, between 6:30 PM and 9:17 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A UT student reported his Apple iPhone was stolen after being left unattended inside a men’s restroom while he washed his hands. Loss value: $450.00. Occurred on: 4-08-11, between 2:30 PM and 2:32 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Marijuana: A UT staff member observed a UT student carrying a clear plastic baggie containing an unknown substance that appeared to be mushrooms enter into a 4th floor dormitory room. A UT student answered the door after several minutes of knocking by the officers. The student informed the officers that he watches the show Cops and knows how this was going to end. The student was very pale in color and very shaky when he opened the door to allow the officers in. The student told the officers he was trying to clean up his room before he let them in. The officers discovered a clear plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance that later tested positive for Marijuana. The student cleared his throat and explained he forgot about the baggie as he was cleaning. Occurred on: 4-08-11, at 7:35 PM. MIKE MYERS STADIUM, 707 Clyde Littlefield Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was reported to have been causing a disturbance by the northwest gate. During the investigation, the officers soon learned the subject had been issued a Criminal Trespass Warning the day before for a similar situation. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-08-11, at 1:36 PM. MOORE-HILL DORMITORY, 214 East 21st Street Burglary: A UT student reported waking up to find her head covered with a bed sheet and an unknown subject lying down on top of her as she was sleeping. The student began resisting and the unknown subject left the dormitory room. The unknown subject is described as: Asian Male with black hair. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and black shorts. Occurred on: 4-10-11, at 3:33 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: The University of Texas Police Department offers, free of charge, a Women’s Self Defense class. The class is 16 hours and is held over the course of 4 nights. During the class ladies, you will learn about self-defense, but more importantly you will learn about Crime Prevention. Simple things like being aware of your surroundings, taking all of your possessions out of your vehicle, locking your doors, and notifying the police when you encounter a suspicious person. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Possession of Alcohol by a Minor / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (3 Counts): A UT staff member reported a UT student was providing alcohol enriched compost to the University landscape. After the student was void of any addition alcohol enriched compost he entered the dormitory and refused to swipe his ID card. The officers located the subject inside his room after his girlfriend gave the officer a spare key to the room. During the investigation, the officers located the student hiding in the bathroom with another student, who was not his girlfriend. The officer observed several open bottles containing alcohol. The officers issued all three students court appearance citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. The resident of the room was issued a second citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 4-10-11, at 3:45 AM. 100 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Public Intoxication: A UT staff member observed a UT student fall and hit his head on a concrete retaining wall. The officers located the student lying on the sidewalk bleeding from a head wound. A second student was attempting to apply pressure to the wound. Austin EMS treated the student and transported him to a local area hospital. During the investigation, the officer learned the injured student had consumed “a lot of alcohol” and had fallen earlier in the night and hit a brick wall in a different location. Occurred on: 4-10-11, at 2:31 AM. 500 BLOCK EAST 23rd STREET Public Intoxication: An off-duty UT Police Officer observed a non-UT subject staggering back and forth as he attempted to walk a properly constructed sidewalk. The subject tripped as he attempted to step over a curb and fell into the roadway. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The subject informed the officers he was attempting to catch a bus to take him 65 miles north to his hometown. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-10-11, at 12:35 AM. 600 BLOCK COLORADO Assault with Injury: A UT staff member reported a non-UT subject was hitting a non-UT female in front of the building. The responding officers separated the subjects began their investigation. The victim informed the officers she had tripped on a nail which caused her injuries. The suspect also denied assaulting the victim. The suspect was taken into custody for Assault with Injuries and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 4-09-11, at 4:52 AM. 600 BLOCK COLORADO Assault with Injury / Assault on a Public Servant: A UT staff member reported two subjects were involved in a fight. The responding officers located both combatants and requested they sit down. One subject informed the officers that he would not sit down and moved towards the officers in a threatening manner. The subject remained in a fighting stance as the officer pushed him back. The subject hit the officer and received a powerful shock as he went to the ground. The subject was taken into custody for Assault with Injuries and Assault of a Public Servant. Occurred on: 4-09-11, at 2:05 AM. 700 BLOCK COLORADO Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered a non-UT subject sleeping on the fire escape. The subject informed the officers she had gotten off work and was looking for a quite place to rest. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 4-11-11, and 12:37 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 73 Alarm Calls, 4 EMS calls, 4 Suspicious Person Reports, 3 Suspicious Activity Reports, 1 Welfare Concern, 1 Burned out Light, and 10 Unsecured Door Report between 04/08/11 and 04/11/11.
