Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Tuesday, 04/12/11 and Wednesday, 04/13/11. ***** ADMINISTRATIVE ALERT MESSAGE ***** UTPD is asking the community for help in identifying a suspect in an early Sunday morning burglary case. A female student reported waking up to a man on her bed in her Moore-Hill dorm room shortly after 3:00 am on April 10, 2011. The suspect was described as an Asian male, with short straight black hair wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts. Anyone with information pertaining to this burglary or the identification of the suspect in the case is asked to contact UTPD at 471-4441 or Criminal Investigations Unit Sergeant Chris Bonnet at 232-9639. National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. This week is a special week for us here at The University of Texas Police Department. It’s National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. Introduced to Congress by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International in 1991, National Public Safety Telecommunications Week is the second full week of April each year. This week is dedicated to public safety telecommunicators who aid in providing emergency assistance to citizens everywhere. Dispatching is a stress filled and intense way to make a living. Believe, me I’ve done it and it takes a very special individual to be a dispatcher. They need to be masterful multitaskers, handling emergency 911 calls, dispatching officers, ambulance and fire departments and answering regular non-emergency calls all at the same time. They need to be kind, caring and sympathetic as often times when a person calls 911 it is one of the worst days of their lives. Dispatchers are the vital link to emergency services that can help us when we need them most. Dispatchers have an awesome responsibility and play a vital role in keeping the students, staff and faculty safe at the University of Texas. Not many can do this job so if you know a dispatcher or if you come into contact with one this week let them know you appreciate their hard work and dedication. CHEMICAL &PETROLUM ENGINEERING BUILDING, 200 East Dean Keeton Graffiti: A giant Seahorse was discovered painted on north exterior wall in black spray paint. Estimated repair value: $100.00. Discovered on: 4-13-11, at 2:08 AM. COLORADO APARTMENTS, 2501 Lake Austin Blvd Theft: A yellow Dawes bicycle was reported stolen after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $700.00. Occurred on: 4-12-11, between 12:01 PM and 2:00 PM. COLORADO APARTMENTS, 2501 Lake Austin Blvd Theft: A green Huffy mountain bicycle was reported stolen after being left unsecured in front of the apartment. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred on: 4-12-11, between 1:30 PM and 2:45 PM. ERWIN SPECIAL EVENTS CENTER, 1701 Red River Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT Police Officer detected the odor of burning marijuana and observed a non-UT subject smoking nearby. The subject placed an object on the ground as the officer walk towards him. The object was a glass pipe, the pipe contained burned marijuana residue. The subject was issued a court appearance citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Occurred on: 4-12-11, at 9:43 PM. ERWIN SPECIAL EVENTS CENTER, 1701 Red River Possession of Marijuana: A UT Police Officer received a number of complaints of a non-UT subject smoking marijuana inside the building. The officer located the subject as he was filling a pipe with marijuana. The officer watch the subject place the pipe under his nose and take a deep breath, then continue to pack the pipe. As the officer approached the subject, the subject quickly placed the pipe in his pocket. During the investigation, the officer located a film container that contained a small amount of a green leafy substance that later tested positive as marijuana. The subject was issued a court appearance citation for Possession of Marijuana and was escorted from the building. Occurred on: 4-12-11, at 9:27 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A black HTC cellular telephone was reported stolen after being left unattended inside the gym next to the basketball courts. Loss value: $80.00. Occurred on: 4-12-11, between 7:00 PM and 7:40 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A brown leather wallet containing personal identification and gift cards was reported stolen after being left unattended inside the gym next to the basketball courts. Loss value: $90.00. Occurred on: 4-12-11, between 8:30 PM and 8:50 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A silver Rhino mountain bicycle was reported stolen after being secured to the bike racks located on the west side of the building with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $60.00. Occurred between: 4-10-11 and 4-12-11. PARKING LOT 115, 1600 East 20th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT student discovered his in-dash AM/FM/CD stereo with a detachable faceplate had been stolen from his vehicle. During an inventory of the vehicle, the student discovered additional items had been removed as well. The subwoofers, middle speakers, amplifier and speaker box had been removed from the trunk of his vehicle. Loss value: $500.00. Discovered on: 4-12-11, at 7:12 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: This is the third Burglary of Motor Vehicle in three days. Two occurred in close proximity to each other. In all three cases the suspect was able to window shop before entering the vehicle. In other words, the thief was able to see an item inside the vehicle before breaking the window or opening an unlocked door. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 28 Alarm Calls, 2 Suspicious Person Reports, 2 Suspicious Activity Reports, 1 EMS Call, 1 Burned Out Light, and 7 Unsecured Door Report between 04/12/11 and 04/13/11.
