From a Campus Watch Subscriber: I am a subscriber to the Campus Watch updates but I haven't had the time to read it lately. My boyfriend however, gave me a head up and warned me to be wary of scams on craiglist as i was about to sublease my place. His warning was very helpful as it made me be more alert with the various scam techniques. So, this person did not even introduce his/her name send me an email with her particulars which I am not interested in at all. I told her, the price for the rent and she replied her boss will send me a check in which I should cash right away and head straight to the Western Union office to send money to her 'travel agent' named Camellia Canaris in Allentown, PA. i googled the email of the person who wanted to sublease from me, but no Facebook account connected to the person. Camellia Canaris is a real person from PA on Facebook but does not look like a travel agent to me. I recently received a check worth $ 3500 (more than the rent I needed) in the mail by Bill Anderson. It was postmarked in Keane, NJ but the check is from Baskin Truck Services in Tennessee with the bank associated with the company as Region bank. The check seriously looked like it was printed from a printer but I am not sure. so the deal was to cash the check and then deducting the rent, send the remaining money to the 'travel agent' to book the place. Hello there, How are you doing? Thanks so much for your prompt response .....This is a little about me,am into Humanitarian Services and i am also a freelance in fashion design, single and love my work.I want to subletting the place from you...I am very happy to know that the place is still available and am really glad to have details about the place its what am looking for....For the payment that is not a problem at all because my boss will be highly responsible for all the expenses of the payment all i have to do is to confirm the amount of the space including the utilities and then get it sent to him including the information's in which the payment will be issued to..,So all i require of you is for you to send me your.. FULL NAME---------- FULL ADDRESS----------- PHONE----------------------- So that i can forward it to my boss because my boss will be paying you in advance because of my flight ,So you get back to my travel agent who is in United state with the rest of the money via western union...in order to get my ticket booked so that i can be in state asap...I am an easy going lady and surely u will enjoy my stay in the u.s.a...i really want to promise u that we ll surely have the best of time because i will take good care of your place.....Here is just more about me... This scam only works when you rush to the bank to cash their fraudulent check and withdraw money the same day. If you feel compelled to deposit their check, wait for the check to clear…in most cases this will be a 10 business day waiting period. Do not withdraw any money on this check because you will be responsible for the funds. The best advice is to report this scam to the police department.
