Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 05/05/11 and Friday, 05/06/11. ***** ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGES ***** Due to international events, Law Enforcement asks that individuals be vigilant and report suspicious behavior. While there are NO SPECIFIC threats, you are encouraged to be attentive & observant, particularly in public places. Around 12:45 AM two Hispanic males robbed a female at gunpoint near the Brazos garage. No one was hurt. They were headed east on MLK when last seen. The suspects are described as heavy set, one wearing a hat and red shirt, the other wearing a hat and white shirt driving a dark colored Honda Accord. BERNARD RAPOPORT BUILDING, #5 East Mall Criminal Trespass Warning / Warrant Service: A UT student reported a non-UT subject had entered into a restricted area of the 4th floor and then left. During the investigation, the officers located the subject inside another room on the 4th floor. The subject informed the officers he was waiting for a friend. As the investigation continued, the officers soon learned the subject had two outstanding warrants from UTPD for Criminal Trespass and Failure to ID. The subject was taken into custody for the warrants and was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement actions taken the subject was issued another Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 5-05-11, at 10:29 PM. BRACKENRIDGE APARTMENTS, 3350 Lake Austin Blvd Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT student observed a non-UT subject enter into a restricted area and disappear along the riverbank. During the investigation, the officers located the subject and issued him a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 5-05-11, at 4:00 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21St Street Theft: A black Apple IPod cellular telephone was reported stolen after it had been placed into a lost and found drawer. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred on: 5-06-11, at 3:21 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: In August 2010 The UTPD Crime Prevention Unit began offering two separate crime prevention programs to help reduce the amount of theft at UT. The first program is called Make Your Mark. This program allows you to engrave your State issued Driver’s License number onto all of your property. The second program is an on-line property registration program. This program was designed to help you record the serial number of your computer, cell phone, digital camera and keep that number in a safe place. Between these two programs the UT Police Department has been able to recover property that was taken theft cases. Our Lost and Found property custodian has also been able to reunite registered property with its lost owner. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21St Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor / Failure to Identify: A UT staff member discovered a UT student passed out inside a first floor women’s restroom. The UT Police Officers soon discovered the student had been paying homage to the porcelain god “Ralph.” When the student handed the officer a current Texas Driver’s License, the officers noticed the picture on the license along with the height and weight listed did not match the student. Due to the extreme intoxication level, Austin EMS treated the subject at the scene for alcohol poisoning and transported her to a local area hospital. The officers were able to positively identify the student and charges for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor were filed. Occurred on: 5-06-11, at 4:01 AM. LITTLEFIELD CARRIAGE HOUSE, 2410 Whitis Ave Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered standing on the east side of the building providing liquid nutrients to the existing landscape. During the investigation, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 5-06-11, at 3:15 AM. ROBERT A. WELCH HALL, 105 East 24th Street Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: A UT student recognized a non-UT subject that she had an encounter with at PCL. The student notified the UT Police Department when the non-UT subject entered into Welch Hall. Officers located the subject sitting at a table, the subject was also watching as the officers entered into the building. As the officers approached the subject, the subject became combative and argumentative. He displayed to the officers his wordsmithing abilities by calling them four letter words. The offices soon learned the subject had 6 outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants. The officers displayed their own wordsmithing abilities and informed the subject he was under arrest. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-05-11, at 4:22 PM. 600 BLOCK COLORADO STREET Public Intoxication / Possession of a Controlled Substance: A non-UT subject was discovered resting his head on a door handle after he had attempted, in vain, to gain entry into a closed building. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The subject informed the officer that he was somewhere on “Congressessish Ave.” The subject also informed the officers that he had been left downtown by his “friends.” The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication. During a search incidental to his arrest, officers discovered the subject was in possession of controlled substance later identified as Hydrocodone. Additional charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance were filed. Occurred on: 5-06-11, at 2:30 AM. 2000 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Driving While Intoxicated: A UT Police Officer observed a black Chevy truck travelling at a high rate of speed. When the vehicle stopped, the non-UT driver exited the vehicle and began walking away. Upon stopping the walking away driver, the officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath and other signs of intoxication. The subject informed the officers that he was on his way home from a friend’s house. The officers administered the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and the driver displayed more clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-06-11, at 1:07 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 24 Alarm Calls, 1 Call Box Alarm, 1 EMS Call, 2 Suspicious Person Report, 1 Suspicious Activity Report, and 2 Unsecured Door Reports between 05/05/11 and 05/06/11.
