Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 05/06/11 and Monday, 05/09/11. BRACKENRIDGE DORMITORY, 207 East 21st Street Burglary of Habitation: A UT student discovered three textbooks had been stolen from his unsecured first floor dormitory room. Occurred on: 5-8-11, between 3:30 PM and 11:00 PM. CALHOUN HALL, #4 South Mall Theft: A duffel bag containing an Apple laptop computer was stolen after being left unattended and unsecured inside a first floor auditorium. Loss value: $1,562.00. Occurred on: 5-05-11, between 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member observed a subject enter into building without showing a current ID or purchasing a day pass. During the investigation, the officers located the subject playing basketball. The subject, identified as a UT student, was escorted from the building and issued a Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 5-07-11, at 4:19 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Terrorist Threat: A UT student reported another UT student had made threaten comments towards her. Occurred on: 5-07-11, at 4:54 AM. PERRY-CASTRANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered inside a 4th floor restroom bathing. The UT staff member stated the subject had made a mess inside the room. During the investigation, the officers located the subject inside a restricted area. The officers issued him a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted him from the area. Occurred on: 5-07-11, at 10:30 PM. 200 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Driving without a License: A silver Infinity was observed travelling at a high rate of speed through campus. During the traffic investigation, the officer learned the driver did not have a driver’s license and had borrowed the vehicle in order to drive a friend home. As the traffic investigation continued, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath and noted his bloodshot eyes. The driver denied having consumed any alcohol, but within the same sentence informed the officer he had consumed one shot. The driver was issued a court appearance citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Driving without a License. Occurred on: 5-08-11, at 3:55 AM. 300 BLOCK WEST 24th STREET Public Intoxication / Place Weapons Prohibited: UT Police Officers responded to a report of an intoxicated individual fighting with another person. Upon the arrival of the officers, the officers learned one subject was trying to get the second subject off the ground. As the officers were attempting to identify the second subject, he passed out. When he awoke, he attempted to engage in another fight. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication. During his last fight, the officers observed the subject had a switchblade knife on his possession. Addition charges for Place Weapons Prohibited were filed. Subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-06-11, at 11:28 PM. 500 BLOCK WEST 24th STREET Harassment: A UT student stated she had been receiving harassing telephone calls from her ex-boyfriend in an attempt to rekindle their relationship. The student declined in filing charges at this time. Occurred since: 2-2011. 600 BLOCK COLORADO Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed staggering back and forth as he attempted to walk along a straight sidewalk. The officer observed the subject stagger and stumble walk behind the O’Henry Building and begin providing liquid compost to the local landscape. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-08-11, at 2:15 AM. 2300 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Assist Outside Agency: A grey Mazda was clocked travelling twice the posted speed limit. During the traffic investigation, the officer soon discovered the UT student driver had several outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants for Failure to Identify and Possession of Dangerous Drugs. The student was taken into custody for the outstanding warrants and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-07-11, at 2:42 AM. 2500 BLOCK GUADALUPE Driving While Intoxicated: A UT Police Officer observed a blue Subaru travelling at a high rate of speed. During the traffic investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath. The officer noted the driver’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy. As the driver exited the vehicle, he lost his balance and stumbled to the sidewalk. The driver informed the officers that his father was also a police officer and kept apologizing for his actions. The officers administered the Standardized Field Sobriety test and observed several signs of intoxication. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-07-11, at 3:33 AM. 2600 BLOCK WHITIS AVE Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Police Office observed a tan Toyota travelling without its headlamps illuminated. During the traffic investigation, the officers observed the passengers, within the vehicle, attempting to conceal several items at their feet. As the officers approached the vehicle, they detected a moderate to strong odor of alcohol from in the vehicle. The officers detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath and learned she was under the legal age of 21. The items that were being concealed were cups containing adult beverages. The driver was issued a court appearance citations for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. The passengers were discovered to be under the age of 21 and were issued court appearance citations for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 5-09-11, at 3:07 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 78 Alarm Calls, 2 Call Box Alarm, 1 EMS Call, 2 Suspicious Person Reports, 3 Suspicious Activity Reports, and 16 Unsecured Door Reports between 05/06/11 and 05/09/11.
