Report for 05/10/2011

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Monday, 05/09/11 and Tuesday, 05/10/11. APPLIED COMPUTATIONAL SCIENCES BUILDING, 201 East 24th Street Theft: A UT student discovered his Apple computer keyboard, Magic Mouse and two converter cables had been stolen from an unsecured 2nd floor work area. Loss value: $110.00. Occurred between: 5-05-11 and 5-09-11. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A black Apple iPhone was reported stolen after being placed in a secure office. During the investigation, the officer learned the phone had been turned into the restaurant staff by an unidentified student after being found unattended. When the owner went back to the store to claim his property, it was discovered stolen. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred between: 5-08-11 at 4:00 PM and 5-09-11, at 10:58 AM. LIVING LEARNING CENTER, 2610 Whitis Ave Criminal Mischief / Graffiti: A UT staff member discovered an unknown subject had thrown cups of yogurt onto the walls and into several of the stairwells throughout the dorm. Staff members also discovered words “I “heart” Whitis” written in lipstick on the walls as well. Estimated damage: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 5-10-11, between 3:45 AM and 4:14 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: I am sure this student really does love Whitis, to a point that the walls, carpet and stairs were damaged. Graffiti charges start at a State Jail felony level since the University of Texas is an institution of higher learning. The amount of damage caused, the amount of time and money it will take to restore the walls, stairs and carpet to pre- I Heart Whitis conditions, will determine the penalty range for the Criminal Mischief charge. 2300 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Theft: A blue Schwinn mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the ACES Building after being secured with a U-shaped lock. Loss value: $320.00. Occurred between: 4-26-11 and 4-28-11. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 31 Alarm Calls, 1 Call Box Alarm, 1 EMS Call, and 3 Unsecured Door Reports between 05/09/11 and 05/10/11.
