Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 5/13/11 and Monday, 5/16/11. DKR TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2200 Robert Dedman Theft: A black Nike backpack containing a black wallet, blue jacket, Apple IPod, Canon digital camera, and two bracelets were reported stolen after being left unattended and unsecured during an event. Loss value: $660.00. Occurred on: 5-14-11, between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. JACKSON SCHOOL OF GEOLOGY, #10 East Mall Theft: A large projector was reported stolen from a 4th floor conference room. During the investigation, the officers noted the projector had been secured with a cable and padlock. Yep, you guessed correctly, the cable had been cut. Loss value: $2,500.00. Occurred between: 5-12-11 and 5-13-11. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Assault: A UT student reported she was thrown to the ground several times by another UT student, causing pain to her knees. During the investigation, the officer learned the subjects had been arguing over comments made on a social networking site. A warrant for the suspect was issued. Occurred on: 5-15-11, at 8:50 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A white Apple laptop computer was reported stolen after being left unattended inside an unsecured 2nd floor room. During the investigation, the officers learned the victim had asked a friend to watch his stuff from another room. Loss value: $800.00. Occurred on: 5-16-11, between 2:10 PM and 3:15 PM. LITTLEFIELD DORMITORY, 201 West Dean Keeton Graffiti: The image of a vegetable was discovered spray painted in maroon paint on a pole. Estimated repair: $100.00. Discovered on: 5-15-11, at 5:00 PM. PICKLE RESEARCH CENTER, 10,000 Burnet Rd Assault / Public Intoxication: A UT student attempted to enter into a restricted area. When stopped, the student looked at the staff member with a blank expression on his face. When told he was not authorized to enter into the restricted area, the student looked at the UT staff member and charged him. The student grabbed the staff member and began yelling, “Give me….Give me.” The staff member defended himself and knocked the student out and notified the UT Police Department. The student layed on the sidewalk snoring. The responding officers located the student and detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The student was taken into custody for Assault / Public Intoxication. Occurred on: 5-15-11, at 12:55 AM. ROBERT L. MOORE HALL, 2515 Speedway Theft: A silver Apple laptop computer was reported stolen. During the investigation, the officer learned the computer had been left unattended outside a 5th floor classroom while the student was checking in for a final exam. Loss value: $1,675. Occurred on: 5-12-11, between 7:00 PM and 7:02 PM. 200 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Possession of Marijuana / Assist Outside Agency: A UT Police Officer observed a subject sitting inside a parked vehicle resting a tray on his lap. The subject was in the process of rolling a cigarette with a green leafy substance the officer quickly recognized as marijuana. As the subject was exiting the vehicle, at the request of the officer, the officer observed a clear plastic baggie containing additional marijuana. The marijuana was confiscated. The officer soon learned the subject had three outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants for Aggravated Robbery. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-16-11, at 12:10 AM. 400 BLOCK EAST 23rd STREET Theft: A black backpack containing a uniform voucher and food items was stolen after being left unattended. Loss value: $10.00. Occurred on: 5-14-11, between 8:20 AM and 8:40 AM. 1900 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Driving While Intoxicated / Assist Outside Agency / Public Intoxication: The University of Texas Police received notification of a reckless driver travelling east on 21st Street. Responding officers located the vehicle, and saw the vehicle travelling left and right as if it were driving through a slalom course. The driver was forced to stop after driving over the curb and encountering a chain fence and a grassy area. During the traffic investigation, the officers noted the driver was slumped over behind the wheel and a front seat passenger appeared to be passed out. The officers were able to get the driver to exit the vehicle, but the driver was unable to maintain his balance or follow the officer’s directions. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath and observed other signs of intoxication. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated. The passenger was taken into custody for Public Intoxication. Both were transported to Central Booking. As the officers were impounding the vehicle, the officers discovered 14 opened bottles of beer inside the vehicle. Occurred on: 5-14-11, at 1:35 AM. 2400 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered sprawled out on the sidewalk. The subject did not respond to the officers for several minutes, but did eventually awake. The subject had a very strong odor of alcohol on his breath and was confused as to where he was. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-14-11, at 1:31 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 78 Alarm Calls, 1 EMS Call, 4 Suspicious Activity Reports, 4 Suspicious Person Reports, 3 Suspicious Activity Reports, and 9 Unsecured Door Reports between 05/13/11 and 05/16/11.
