Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 06/03/11 Monday, 06/6/11. PAINTER HALL, 103 West 24th Street Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: UT Police Officers responded to a report of two subjects attempting to locate a professor. The subjects informed the staff members they were with the “fraud protection service” and wanted to meet the professor. The subjects left the area prior to the arrival of the officers. During the investigation, the officers located one of the subjects as he was walking along the South Mall. He informed the officers he was working for the “Alumni Association” and was raising funds for “St. Stephens.” The subject informed the officers that he did not have an ID on him and provided the officers with a name and date of birth that was later determined to be false. The officers soon learned the Austin Police Department wanted to talk to the subject. The subject was taken into detention and was released to the Austin Police Department. In addition to the law enforcement actions taken, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 6-03-11, at 12:25 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: The staff members involved in this case did a great job. They suspected something was not right and they notified the police. UFCU DISCH FAULK FIELD, 1300 East Martin Luther King Blvd. Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member observed a non-UT subject attempting to sell tickets in front of the stadium. The staff member told the subject he needed to leave the area and to conduct his business off campus. Several minutes later the subject returned and was again attempting to sell tickets. During the investigation, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 6-04-11, at 5:10 PM. TEXAS SWIM CENTER, 1900 Red River Suspicious Person: UT Police Officers responded to the report that two staff members were detaining an unwanted guest. Upon the arrival of the officers, they observed two staff members wielding a broom and a mop attempting to tame an 18 inch brown serpent. The unidentified subject was observed striking at the custodians from its temporary refuge, a Sony CD Player. After some prodding on the part of the officers, as well as a large dust pan, the subject was released unharmed into Waller Creek. Occurred on: 6-04-11, at 1:18 AM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Criminal Trespass / Evading Detention: A UT staff member observed a known offender inside a restricted area of the Texas Union and notified the Police Department. When the subject saw the officers approaching him, he stood up and began speed walking towards an exit. After clearing the exit, the subject started running towards Guadalupe. The pursuing officers yelled for the subject to stop. With Cheetah like speed the officer caught the subject. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and Evading Arrest or Detention and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-03-11, at 10:28 PM. 100 WEST 21st STREET Driving While Intoxicated: A UT Police Officer observed a dark colored Honda travelling without it headlamps illuminated. The officers heard the vehicle strike the curb several times. During the traffic investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The driver informed the officers that he was coming from a local downtown establishment and had only consumed 2 drinks. The officers administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests and observed clues that indicated the driver was intoxicated. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-04-11, at 1:26 AM. 2400 BLOCK GUADALUPE Possession of Marijuana: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping on the sidewalk. Laying next to the subject were two hand rolled cigarettes. One of the cigarettes contained a green leafy substance the officer quickly recognized as marijuana. After waking up, the subject claimed both rolled cigarettes were his. The subject was taken into custody for Possession of Marijuana and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-05-11, at 3:41 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 56 Alarm Calls, 2 Callbox Alarm, 2 Suspicious Activity Reports, 1 Suspicious Person Report, 3 Burned out Light reports, and 13 Unsecured Door Reports between 06/03/11 and 06/06/11.
