Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Tuesday, 06/14/11 and Wednesday, 6/15/11. ALMETRIUS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Theft / Criminal Trespass: The UT Police Department received information a non-UT subject had removed a mountain bicycle from the bike racks located on the northeast side of the building. During the investigation, the officer determined the subject had taken the stolen bicycle and boarded a public transit bus. The bus was located and the non-UT subject was taken into custody for Theft. As the investigation continued, the officers soon learned the subject had received prior written Criminal Trespass Warnings for various locations on campus. The subject was transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement actions taken, the subject was issued another written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 6-14-11, at 7:03 AM. BLANTON MUSEUM OF ART, 1900 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning (5 Counts): A UT Police Officer discovered several non-UT subjects skateboarding and “grinding” off of metal BMA sign. During the investigation, the officer issued all five subjects written Criminal Trespass Warnings and escorted them from the area. The officer was unable to determine if the subjects had caused new damage to the sign and railing. Occurred on: 6-14-11, at 3:40 PM. COLORADO APARTMENT, 2501 Lake Austin Blvd. Assault with Bodily Injury: A non-UT subject reported he had been assaulted by his wife after she had asked him to help clean up their apartment and he continued to play his guitar instead. Prior to the arrival of the police officers, the suspect had left the area. Occurred on: 6-14-11, at 2:00 PM. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 203 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: A UT staff member discovered a UT Freshman Orientation student on his knees near the main entrance to the dormitory. The student was having a difficult time entering the building. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath as well as other signs of intoxication. The officers, obviously not fluent in the mush-mouth dialect, were unable to understand the student when he attempted to answer basic questions. Austin EMS treated the student at the scene and transported him to a local area hospital for additional treatment. A summons was filed. Occurred on: 6-15-11, at 1:56 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Many parents will agree this is not starting your college career off on the right foot or knee in this case. This student will look forward to losing his Driver License for 30 days, 20 hours of Community Service, 8 hours Drug and Alcohol class, meeting the presiding judge, court costs and fines. KINSOLVING DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Ave Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member discovered a pile of glass and a shattered glass insert. During the investigation, the officer discovered an unknown subject had approached the northeast exterior door and broke the window out. Loss value: $100.00. Discovered on: 6-14-11, at 7:45 AM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A plum colored wallet containing $60.00 in cash, personal identification and several credit cards was reported stolen after being left unsecured on a second floor study carrel. During the investigation, the officer learned the victim, had left her property unattended for 45 seconds to check on her daughter. Loss value: $78.00. Occurred on: 6-14-11, at 4:55 PM. 300 BLOCK WEST MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD. Driving While Intoxicated: A UT Police Officer observed a red SUV travelling at a high rate of speed through campus. As the vehicle continued to travel through campus in excess of 50 mph, the vehicle committed multiple other traffic violations. During the traffic investigation, the officers detected a mild odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath after the driver was able to figure out which window needed to be rolled down in order to talk to the officer. During the investigation, the officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety Test. The driver displayed a number of clues that indicated she was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-15-11, at 12:56 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 18 Alarm Calls, 2 EMS Call, 2 Suspicious Activity Reports, 1 Suspicious Person Report, 11 Malfunctioning Lights, and 2 Unsecured Door Reports between 06/14/11 and 06/15/11.
