Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 07/01/11 and Tuesday, 07/05/11. ALMETRIS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Theft: UT Police Officers received information a subject had been seen removing a mountain bicycle from the bike racks located on the northeast side of the dormitory. During the investigation, the officers located the subject riding the bike away from campus. The subject, identified as a UT student, informed the officers that his bicycle had been stolen last year and he wanted a bike to get around on. The student was taken into custody for Theft and was transported to Central Booking. Recovered loss: $1,300.00. Occurred on: 7-01-11, at 9:30 PM. AT&T CONFERENCE CENTER, 1900 University Ave Public Intoxication: Hotel staff reported several noise complainants involving several subjects inside a 4th floor room. The complainants had reached a point where the subjects were being evicted. During the investigation, the officers discovered the subjects inside the room were the same subjects from an earlier noise complaint inside the courtyard. The hotel staff informed the subjects they had to leave. One subject removed the blanket from the bed and wrapped it around his shoulders. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and observed several signs of intoxication as he stumbled around inside the room. As soon as the subject stepped into the hallway he was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. At Central Booking, the subject was given a new blanket. Occurred on: 7-03-11, at 5:53 AM. GREGORY GYM, 2109 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed gaining entry into the building without first purchasing a day pass. During the investigation, the officers located the subject inside the weight room, power lifting. The subject stated he did not have any money to buy a guest pass and thought he could slip in unnoticed. The subject was issued a criminal trespass warning and was given notice to leave the area. The subject was escorted from the building. Occurred on: 7-03-11, at 4:20 PM. WELCH HALL, 105 East 24th Street Graffiti: Words and letters were discovered written in black permanent marker on the lids of several trashcans located inside the Welch Courtyard. Loss value: $50.00. Discovered on: 7-04-11, at 12:32 AM. 100 BLOCK JESTER CIRCLE DRIVE Driving While Intoxicated / Possession of Marijuana: A UT student was discovered passed out inside a blue Toyota truck. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath. The driver’s eyes were blood shot and watery. The officers noted the driver staggered as he got out of the vehicle, then stumbled backwards to regain his balance. The officers administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The driver displayed a number of clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated. After being taken into custody for DWI, the officers searched the student’s vehicle and discovered a pill bottle containing a green leafy substance that later tested positive for Marijuana. Additional charges for Possession of Marijuana were filed. The student was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-04-11, at 3:56 AM. 600 BLOCK WEST 6th STREET Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a non-UT subject holding onto the OHH fence in order to keep from losing his fight with Earth’s gravity. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. Due to the effects of the transporting elixir, the subject believed he was in Washington, but not sure of the exact location. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to a more defined location, Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-02-11, at 3:08 AM. 2200 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Public Intoxication: A UT student was discovered staggering back and forth as he attempted to cross the street. After crossing the street, the student continued on in a zig zag pattern as he turned around in a complete circle without realizing he was now headed back to where he had started. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and noted additional signs of intoxication. The student informed the officers that he was walking to 26th and San Jacinto to go home. He insisted to the officers that he was already at 26th Street and just a short distance from his home. The student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-02-11, at 3:00 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 51 Alarm Calls, 1 Call Box alarm, 1 EMS call, 1 Suspicious Activity Report, 2 Suspicious Person Reports, 1 Burned Out Light Report, and 20 Unsecured Door Reports between 07/01/11 and 07/05/11.
