Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 07/08/11 and Tuesday, 07/12/11. WINSHIP DRAMA BUILDING, 300 East 23rd Street Theft: A UT Staff Member reported several items stolen from a storage room. Occurred between: 07-07-11, at 5:00 PM and 07-08-11, at 10:00 AM. SAN ANTONIO GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Street Criminal Mischief: A UT Police Officer found damage to the east side exit gate of the parking garage. Repair cost: $200.00. Occurred on 07-08-11. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Street Burglary: UT Staff Members reported several items missing from their offices and a locker room. Loss value: $2,714.00. Occurred between: 07-08-11, at 10:30 PM and 07-10-11, at 12:15 PM. 1500 Red River Street Driving While Intoxicated / Driving While License Invalid: A non-UT subject was arrested for DWI and Driving While License Invalid. Occurred on: 07-09-11, at 2:51 AM. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Street Theft: A UT Staff Member reported her cell phone and purse stolen from a women’s restroom. She accidently left her items in the restroom and when she went back to retrieve them, they were gone. Loss value: $312.00. Occurred between: 07-09-11, 10:10 AM and 10:15 AM. PERRY CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was arrested for Criminal Trespass from the 4th floor of the library. The subject had 3 prior Criminal Trespass Warnings. Occurred on: 07-09-11, at 12:17 PM. 200 West Martin Luther King Boulevard Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer responded to a report of a non-UT subject sitting on the sidewalk with his feet in the street. The subject was unaware of his location, time, and date. He had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. When asked how much he had to drink, the subject stated, “I don’t know, too much.” The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking for Public Intoxication. Occurred on: 07-10-11, at 2:15 AM. 100 West Martin Luther King Boulevard Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer responded to a report of a non-UT subject passed out on a park bench. The subject’s pants were unzipped and body parts were exposed. Once the officer woke him up, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the subject’s breath. The subject righted his wardrobe malfunction and could not produce an ID. He kept trying to give the officer a pack of gum and his cell phone. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking for Public Intoxication. Occurred on: 07-10-11, at 2:20 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, the University of Texas Police Department responded to 69 Alarm Calls, 1 Assist Outside Agency Call, 1 Accidental Damage Report, 1 Suspicious Person Call, 1 Lost Property Report, 2 Suspicious Activity Calls, 3 Lighting Problem Reports, 2 Key Assists, 4 Sick Person Calls, 3 Criminal Trespass Warning Reports, and 6 Unsecured Door Reports between 07/08/11 and 07/12/11. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that cover assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks.
