Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 07/15/11 and Monday, 07/18/11. ALMETRIS DURAN HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Theft: The University of Texas Police Department received notification two non-UT subjects had taken a mountain bicycle from the bike racks located on the northeast side of the dormitory. The subjects had placed the bike in the bed of a white Ford truck and left the area. During the investigation, the officers were able to locate the vehicle as well as the bike. Both the non-UT driver and non-UT passenger were taken into custody for Theft and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-16-11, at 12:57 PM. BELMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Blvd. Burglary of Building: A UT student reported a Logitech wireless mouse had been stolen from a secured 8th floor office. Loss value: $20.00. Occurred between: 7-07-11 and 7-08-11. PATTERSON LABS, 2415 Speedway Theft / Fraud: A UT staff member discovered her red vinyl checkbook, personal identification and several credit cards had been removed from her purse. Several unauthorized purchases had already been made on the credit cards. During the investigation, the officer learned the purse had been left unattended and unsecured inside a second floor lab. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred between: 7-14-11 and 7-15-11. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was discovered in a restricted area of the library, sleeping. During the investigation, the officers learned the subject had been issued a prior written Criminal Trespass Warning for the same area. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass. Prior to being transported to Central Booking, the officers were informed the subject had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant. In addition to the law enforcement actions taken, the subject was issued another Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 7-15-11, at 9:20 AM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT student approached a UT staff member and informed the staff member about a non-UT subject who was disturbing his studying. The student stated the subject was snoring. During the investigation, the officers located the subject and were able to wake him up. The subject was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 7-15-11, at 2:32 PM. PETER T. FLAWN ACADEMIC CENTER, #2 West Mall Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping inside a restricted area of the building. During the investigation, the officers issued the subject a written Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted him from the area. Occurred on: 7-17-11, at 6:35 AM. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT Police Officer discovered a non-UT subject sleeping inside an established campsite located under the northwest stairwell. The officer was able to wake the subject up. The subject informed the officer that he had been sleeping at the University Quarters Apartment complex when an Austin Police Officer informed him he needed to move along. The UT Police Officer provided him the same information and issued him a written Criminal Trespass Warning as a reminder. Occurred on: 7-17-11, at 8:00 AM. WINSHIP DRAMA BUILDING, 300 East 23rd Street Criminal Trespass Warning (2 Counts): A UT staff member heard the sounds of snoring coming from a small storage room located under the stage. During the investigation, the officers located two non-UT subjects wrapped up inside a large blanket sleeping. During the investigation, the officers learned one had been friends with a former UT staff member who had shown him the small storage area under the stage. The subjects were issued written Criminal Trespass Warnings and were escorted from the area. Occurred on: 7-16-11, at 1:13 PM. 100 BLOCK EAST DEAN KEETON Public Intoxication / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject notified the UT Police Department that she needed assistance via the emergency callbox. Upon the officers arrival they discovered a female covered in blood. The officers learned the non-UT subject had been involved in a fight with her sister over a misplaced cellular telephone. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. During the course of the investigation, the subject informed the officers that she had been celebrating her birthday on 6th Street as well as at a friend’s apartment. Austin EMS treated the subject at the scene and transported her to a local area hospital. The Austin Police Department was notified of the Assault. Occurred on: 7-17-11, at 5:22 AM. 400 BLOCK WEST DEAN KEETON Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was reported to be passed out in a bush next to the bus stop. During the investigation, the officers located a subject who was unable to maintain his balance as he walked from side to side. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted a fresh injury to his cheek. The subject was unable to tell the officers what time it was nor what day of the week. Austin EMS treated the subject at the scene and transported him to a local area hospital for additional treatment. Occurred on: 7-16-11, at 7:41 PM. 1900 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Assist Outside Agency: The UT Police Department received information a subject was attempting to evade several APD officers. An alert UT Police Officer observed a subject walking a bicycle that matched the description provided. The subject saw the officer and attempted to leave on the bike. The subject was able to make a few yards before being taken into custody. The subject was turned over to the Austin Police Department. Occurred on: 7-16-11, at 10:35 PM. 2300 BLOCK ROBERT DEDMAN Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor / Swimming in the Fountain / Evading: A UT Police Officer observed three subjects swimming inside the LBJ Fountain. As the officer approached, the subject decided it was time to leave the area. The officer yelled for the subjects to stop, they quickened their pace. With an accelerated stride, the officer caught one subject on the west side of SRH. Responding officers located the second subject hiding in the bed of a truck attempting to get dressed. During the investigation, the officers learned the subjects had been had been consuming adult beverages at a local downtown establishment. Both subjects were under the legal age of 21 and were issued court appearance citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. The second subject denied swimming inside the fountain, even though she was still wet and her clothes were on backwards. The officers never located the third subject, but they were able to obtain his name and address. Occurred on: 7-17-11, at 2:49 AM. 2500 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officers witnessed a non-UT subject fall off of a planter box while in a sitting position. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath. The subject informed the officers that he was walking home with his friends when he became separated from them. None of his friends were answering their telephones. The subject attempted to show the officers he was not intoxicated by walking around, which led to stumbling. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-16-11, at 1:57 AM. 2500 BLOCK GUADALUPE Disorderly Conduct- Exposure: A non-UT subject was observed standing at the intersection with his “Pants on the ground” marking the corners of his territory. When stopped, the subject denied he had been urinating, even though he was still standing with his pants around his ankles. The subject was taken into custody for Disorderly Conduct- Exposure and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-17-11, at 12:12 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 48 Alarm Calls, 2 Call Box Alarms, 1 Suspicious Person Call, 3 Suspicious Person Calls, 1 Suspicious Activity Report, and 13 Unsecured Door Reports between 07/15/11 and 07/18/11.
