Subject was described as: white male, 19 years of age, 6’-0”, brown hair and brown eyes. During the investigation, the officers searched the area and located the subject. The subject admitted to the officers that he had in fact been back on campus, but claimed he had not been harassing any female students. The subject was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 8-22-11, at 12:33 PM. JESTER WEST RESIDENCE HALL, 201 East 21st Street Suspicious Person: A UT student reported she was approached by a subject outside the residence hall. The subject asked the student for her name, floor that she lived on and room number. The student told the subject her name and what floor she lived on, but no further information. The student left and was visiting a friend on the same floor she lived on. As she was leaving the same subject was walking along the floor reading the name tags. The student again encountered the same subject on her floor. During the investigation, the officers were able to locate the suspicious person. The subject was identified as a current UT student. The student informed the officers that he simply wanted to have a conversation with the female student since he believed they were friends on Face Book. The officers explained to the student his actions made the other student nervous and that she did not want to be his friend. Occurred on: 8-22-11, at 9:23 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: In all of the Self Defense classes taught, the students learn there is no reason why a person needs to give out their information to a total stranger. If you feel compelled to give someone your information, only give them your first name. Never give out any information about where you live. MOORE-HILL RESIDENCE HALL, 214 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: A UT student discovered another UT student passed out next to the exterior doors of the residence hall. The student was wearing the evidence of having had an extreme physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol. The student was very intoxicated and needed assistance into the building and into his room. The police officers located the subject laying on a bed covered in vomit, unresponsive. Officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath in addition the aroma of vomit. After some gentle rubbing on the student’s sternum, he became responsive. The officers learned the student was rushing Delta Epsilon PSI and had visited a local downtown establishment with the group and had consumed several shots of vodka. The student was released into the care and control of a sober friend after receiving a referral to the Dean of Student’s Office. Occurred on: 8-23-11, at 3:02 AM. MUSIC BUILDING EAST, 2405 Trinity Ave Theft / Fraud: A black Apple iPhone and a wallet containing $15.00 in cash, several credit cards and personal identification were removed from an unattended backpack. During the investigation, the officers learned the backpack had been left on a chair inside the 2nd floor band hall. As the investigation continued, the officers discovered several unauthorized charges had been made at several local business establishments. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 8-21-11, between 6:10 PM and 8:00 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: Desire, Ability and Opportunity. These are the three things that need to be present in order for a thief to be successful. Out of the three, opportunity is the one factor we can control. This is the second theft that has occurred involving members of the marching band. In both cases the victim’s property was left unattended and unsecured, creating an opportunity for a crime. A lock and a locker works wonders.
