Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 08/25/11 and Friday, 08/26/11. Crime Alert! Assault Suspect: A dark skinned male, medium to thin build, under 6', last seen wearing a striped shirt and blue jeans, and riding a bike. Suspect groped a female. Report any suspicious information to UTPD 471-4441 or 911 ERNEST COCKRELL HALL, 301 East Dean Keeton Burglary: A red bi-fold wallet containing $23.00 in cash, several credit cards and personal identification was reported stolen from an unsecured 5th floor office. During the investigation, the officers learned the wallet had been inside a purse, which had been left unattended and unsecured inside the office. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred on: 8-25-11, between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM. MUSIC BUILDING EAST, 2405 Trinity Ave Theft: A cellular telephone was left unattended in a lounge chair outside a 2nd floor music hall. A UT student witnessed an unknown subject pick up the phone then heard him ask if the property belonged to anyone. The subject then walked away with the property. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 8-25-11, at 2:49 PM. ROBERT L. MOORE HALL, 2515 Speedway Burglary: A UT staff member discovered five iMac computers had been stolen from a secured 2nd floor storage room. During the investigation, the officer did not notice any signs of forced entry. Loss value: $5,500.00. Discovered on: 8-25-11, at 10:12 AM. 100 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Suspicious Person: A UT student reported an unknown subject was seen walking up to several secured bicycles and pulling on the locks to see if the lock was locked. During the investigation, the officers searched the area with negative results. The unknown subject was described as: White male, short dark hair, 5’-10”,160 pounds, last seen wearing a green t-shirt and blue shorts. Occurred on: 8-25-11, at 4:01 PM. 2200 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Public Intoxication: A UT officer observed a UT student having a difficult time maintaining his path-finding skills while navigating the straight sidewalk. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and noted other noticeable signs of intoxication. The student informed the officers that he knew he was stumbling but he could “stumble all the way home.” The officers learned the student had attended a party west of Guadalupe. When asked where the student pointed towards the Interstate and said, “Over there.” The officer allowed the student to use one of his three life lines and call a Sober Friend. The student was released into the care and custody of a sober friend after receiving a referral to the Dean of Student’s Office. Occurred on: 8-26-11, at 2:42 AM. 2200 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor / Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a UT student stumble up to the exterior doors of BRB, remove is UT ID from his wallet and began swiping the card reader. The student appeared to be dumbfounded his access into the building was DENIED. As the officer approached the student, they detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and noted his glassy bloodshot eyes. The student informed the officers he was trying to gain entry into Jester so he could go to sleep, and for some unknown reason his ID was not letting him in. The officers soon learned the student was under the legal of 21 and had been consuming mind numbing adult beverages. The student was issued a court appearance citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and was released to his sober roommate. Occurred on: 8-26-11, at 1:59 AM. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that cover assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
