After being denied access, due to the gate being locked, the student was able to gain access into Belmont Hall. The student entered an elevator and took the elevator to the 4th floor then returned to the ground floor. He then repeated the process twice more before exiting the elevator and meeting the officers on the ground floor. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and learned he had been to various downtown establishments. The officers noted other signs of intoxication. The student informed the officers that he had taken a cab to his apartment building and was on his way up to his apartment located on the 4th floor. PRATHER RESIDENCE HALL, 305 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT staff member discovered an unresponsive UT student inside the main lobby. The non-UT subject called a cab and escorted the student back to her dormitory to ensure her safety. Austin EMS arrived at the scene to treat the subject and transported her to a local area hospital. Occurred on: 8-29-11, at 1:20 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: I do not think this student was intending to finish her night of partying at a local area hospital. Nor do I think that her non-UT friend had intended to be a baby sitter to an intoxicated person. I would like to commend his actions after the “friends” she had gone to the party with abandoned her. It is recommended to always have a safety plan established before leaving with your friends. This plan is to establish your expectations for the night as well as your friends. The goal is to ensure everyone gets home safe. SOUTH MALL, 2100 Block University Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed reaching over a barricade and slapping Bevo on his hind quarter during a nationally televised event. Bevo hooked one of his handlers and tossed him into the air. Officers located the non-UT subject and issued him a Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted him from the area. The driver admitted to the officer that she had consumed only 2 mixed drinks the entire night. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The driver displayed several clues that indicated she was intoxicated. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement actions taken, the officers learned the subject had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant for Theft. Occurred on: 8-27-11, at 1:00 AM.
