Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 09/01/11 and Friday, 09/02/11. ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE The University of Texas Police Department is currently accepting application for the next Citizen Police Academy. WALTER WEBB HALL, 2500 Guadalupe Street Criminal Mischief: Some unknown subject or subjects marked the inset of a window with a white non permanent wax. Occurred between: 1 PM, 08-29-11 and 7:41 AM, 09-01-11. MOORE HILL DORMITORY, 214 East 21st Street Theft: A red Trek 4700 24” mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the south east side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $450.00. Occurred between: 8:30 PM, 08-31-11 and 12:20 PM, 09-01-11. ERNEST COCKRELL, JR HALL, 301 East Dean Keeton Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was seen wandering the halls and classrooms of RLM and ECJ. The subject had prior Criminal Trespass Warnings, was found in possession of UT keys, and a UTID card. He was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-01-11, at 9:08 PM. ITRAMURAL FIELDS, 4901 Guadalupe Street Burglary of Vehicle: A UT student had his vehicle broken into while he played football. Stolen from his vehicle were: his backpack containing his laptop and its charger, calculator, headphones, IPod Nano, physics textbook, his course notes from 4 classes, his brown leather wallet containing his TX DL, his debit card, $80 cash, multiple ID’s, approximately $30 worth of assorted gift cards, an old Blackberry cell phone with a cracked screen, and a plain white tee shirt. Total loss value: $1,110.00. Occurred between 8:30-9:30 PM, on 09-02-11. 1900 University Avenue Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT Officer stopped a vehicle for the moving violation of No Right Turn On Red. As the officer approached, a strong odor of marijuana was coming from inside the vehicle. The driver voluntarily consented to a vehicle search. There were 2 other subjects in the vehicle. The driver told the officer that he would find marijuana inside the vehicle. He stated the marijuana and glass pipe belonged to a distressed hitchhiker he picked up downtown. The hitchhiker showed them the marijuana. The hitchhiker saw a police car pass by and then bailed out of the car and ran off. The driver was issued 2 citations and released at the scene. Occurred at 1:54 AM, on 09-02-11. JESTER ACADEMIC CENTER, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Mischief and Theft: Some unknown subject or subjects damaged the stalls and stole hardware from the stall doors from a Women’s Restroom. Occurred between 09-01-11 and 09-02-11. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 25 Alarm Calls, 2 Suspicious Package Calls, 2 Suspicious Activity Reports, 1 Welfare Concern Report, 2 Criminal Trespass Warnings, 1 Suspicious Person Report, 1 Key Assist, 1 EMS Call, 1 Accidental Damage Report, 1 Disturbance Information Report, and 1 Unsecured Door Report between 09/01/11 and 09/02/11 To view a map of the campus visit: http://www.utexas.edu/parking/maps/index.html Are you a Fan of the University of Texas Police Department? Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that cover assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks.
