Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Tuesday, 09/20/11 and Wednesday, 09/21/11. ROBERT L. MOORE HALL, 2515 Speedway Theft: A black Dell laptop computer was reported stolen from an unsecured 4th floor classroom after being left unattended. Loss value: $650.00. Occurred on: 9-19-11, between 9:45 PM and 10:45 PM. ROBERT L. MOORE HALL, 2515 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: A UT staff member reported a non-UT subject had entered a fourth floor office wanting to see a professor. The subject wanted to have the professor determine if his paper on the riddles about the heavens in multi-dimensions could be solved. During the investigation, the officers located the subject sitting in a waiting area. The officers soon learned the subject had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. In addition to the law enforcement actions taken, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning. Occurred on: 9-20-11, at 1:28 PM. SANCHEZ BUILDING, 1912 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member reported a non-UT subject was walking through the building asking to buy textbooks from those he encountered. During the investigation, the officers located the subject on the second floor. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the building. Occurred on: 9-20-11, at 2:42 PM. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Burglary of Residence: A silver Apple laptop computer was stolen from an unsecured 3rd floor dormitory room. During the investigation, the officer learned the victim had left his room unsecured while he ran downstairs to the vending machine to get a snack. Upon his return he discovered his laptop had been taken. Loss value: $3,000.00. Occurred on: 9-20-11, between 11:00 PM and 11:05 PM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was reported passed out inside a second floor area. During the investigation, the officer located the subject and detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath from six feet away. Due to the officer’s training and experience, he was able to understand the subject’s mush mouthed dialect and incomplete sentence structure. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-20-11, at 5:44 PM. WINSHIP DRAMA BUILDING, 300 East 23rd Building Burglary of Building: A UT staff member discovered a Sony 46-inch flat screen had been removed from a backstage area after being left unsecured. Loss value: $400.00. Occurred between 9-14-11 and 9-16-11. 200 BLOCK EAST 24th STREET Theft: A yellow and silver Schwinn mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of WRW after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred between: 9-20-11 and 9-21-11. 2500 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Theft: A black and white Diamondback mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of Creekside Residence Hall. During the investigation, the officer learned the student had secured his bicycle’s front tire to the bike rack with a U-shaped lock. The officer noted the front tire was still secured to the rack. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred on: 9-20-11, between 12:01 AM and 6:30 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 20 Alarm Calls, 3 Suspicious Activity Reports, 2 Suspicious Person Call, , and 3 Unsecured Door Report between 09/20/11 and 09/21/11. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that cover assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
