Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Wednesday, 09/21/11 and Friday, 09/23/11. ALMETREUS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Theft: A green Huffy mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the northeast side of the building. Loss value: $80.00. Occurred between: 9-19-11 and 9-22-11. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Public Intoxication: A UT staff member discovered a non-UT subject passed out during the concert. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath. The officers were able to get the subject to wake up, but she had a difficult time talking to the officers. When asked to spell her name, the subject stated, “2-3-A.” Due to the subject’s intoxication level, she was transported to a local area hospital after being treated at the scene. Occurred on: 9-22-11, at 9:44 PM. KINSOLVING RESIDENCE HALL, 2605 Whitis Ave Criminal Trespass Warning / Theft: A UT staff member observed a UT student enter the Kinsolving Store and attempt to walk out of the store with several food and drink items. During the investigation, the officer learned this student had been involved in several similar incidents since the beginning of the semester. As the investigation continued, the officer located the student and issued him a written Criminal Trespass Warning for all of the Housing and Food operated cafés and stores. No charges for Theft have been filed at this time. Occurred on: 9-22-11, at 12:15 PM. STUDENT ACTVITY CENTER, 2201 Speedway Harassment: A UT student reported receiving several harassing and annoying telephone calls from an unknown caller on her cellular telephone. Occurred on: 9-23-11 at 2:27 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: During the investigation, the officer informed the reporting person to use the feature *57 to trap the telephone number. For the big carriers like AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and T-Model they do not offer this feature. However there are several companies that offer you the ability to trap blocked numbers and reveal who that person is. These companies can be found on-line at price of $4.95. For more information you can contact the UT Police Crime Prevention Unit at 512-232-9634. 1700 BLOCK TRINITY AVE Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a UT student attempting to carry a highly intoxicated non-UT subject. During the investigation, the officer learned the subjects were friends and had spent the night at several downtown establishments celebrating the non-UT subject’s 21st birthday. The student informed the officer he was no longer able to take care of his friend and was in the process of calling for EMS to assist him. Austin EMS treated the subject at the scene and transported him to a local area hospital. Occurred on: 9-23-11, at 1:05 AM. 2000 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a UT student staggering back and forth as he attempted to walk up-right along the sidewalk. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath from several feet away. The officer noted other signs of intoxication and the student informed the officer that he had too much to drink. The student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-23-11, at 3:21 AM. 2300 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a UT student laying on the ground, a second UT student was attempting to pick the other student up. Once the student was on her feet and in an up-right position, she was unable to maintain her balance. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breaths of both students. The first student handed the officer her UT ID and a TX ID card that was issued to another person. The second student handed the officer his TX ID card also with a UT ID. When asked how much they alcohol they had consumed, the female student looked at the officer and stated, “I’m not going to lie, I had a lot.” The officers noted other signs of intoxication, bloodshot eyes, unsure balance and slurred speech with both students. Both were taken into custody for Public intoxication and were transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-23-11, at 2:31 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 48 Alarm Calls, 6 Suspicious Activity Reports, 5 Suspicious Person Calls, 7 EMS calls, and 9 Unsecured Door Report between 09/21/11 and 09/23/11.
