Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 09/23/11and Monday, 09/26/11. ALMETRIS DUREN HALL, 2624 Whitis Ave Theft: A silver Schwinn mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the northeast portion of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred between 9-20-11 and 9-22-11. GUADALUPE PARKING GARAGE, 1616 Guadalupe Criminal Trespass: A UT staff member observed a known offender walking around inside the parking garage. During the investigation, the officers located the subject as he was attempting to walk down to a lower level. During the investigation, the subject insisted he was looking for a friend’s vehicle that had been parked in the garage. The officers soon learned the subject had received several prior written Criminal Trespass Warnings for various buildings on campus. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-24-11, at 1:08 PM. MAIN MALL, #1 South Mall Public Intoxication: UT Police Officers responded to a medical call on the South Mall. During the investigation, the officers learned a UT student had consumed a large amount of alcohol. As the student was returning to campus, he decided to climb to the top of one of the statues located along the Mall. After reaching the top, the student fell 10 feet. Austin EMS arrived and transported the student to a local area hospital. Occurred on: 9-24-11, at 4:59 AM. MUSIC RECITAL HALL, 2405 Trinity Ave Theft: A brown leather wallet containing several credit cards, $2.00 in cash, and personal identification was stolen after being left inside an unsecured 6th floor practice room. During the investigation, the officer learned the victim had left her property unattended when she went to visit a friend that was down the hall. As she was returning to her practice room an unknown subject was leaving. The subject smiled at the victim and informed her he was a custodian. The unknown subject was described as: Black male, 40 years of age, 6’-0”, 200 lbs, short hair and was last seen wearing a tan jacket. Loss value: $122.00. Occurred on: 9-25-11, at 3:50 PM. PARKING LOT 114, 2200 Leona Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT Police Officer discovered the rear passenger window of a white Honda had been shattered. Upon closer inspection, the officer discovered the stereo system was missing and the glove box had been opened and gone through. After making contact with the owner, the officers learned a JVC AM/FM/CD player had been removed without the effective consent of the owner. Estimated damage to vehicle: $2,000.00. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred on: 9-24-11, between 2:40 AM and 5:24 AM. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Graffiti: Words written in black marker were discovered in eight separate areas of the garage. Estimated repair: $400.00. Discovered on: 9-26-11, at 2:13 AM. SAN JACINTO PARKING GARAGE, 2401 San Jacinto Blvd. Criminal Mischief: Words written in chalk were discovered on the 7th level of the garage. Estimated repair: $20.00. Discovered on: 9-26-11, at 12:15 AM. UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, 1616 Guadalupe Harassment: A UT staff member reported receiving several harassing telephone calls and text messages from her ex-boyfriend. Reported on: 9-23-11, at 4:31 PM. 200 BLOCK EAST DEAN KEETON Public Intoxication: A non-UT cab driver flagged down a UT Police Officer and informed the officer he had an intoxicated subject in the back of his vehicle. The subject could not provide the driver a correct address and location that he needed to be dropped off at. During the investigation, the officer discovered the subject had created a personal “Splash Zone” in the back passenger compartment of the taxi. The subject was unable to answer basic questions for the officer. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-24-11, at 1:23 AM. 200 BLOCK EAST DEAN KEETON Theft: A silver Schwinn mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of ETC after being secured with a U-shaped lock. The victim had located his U-lock and discovered it had been cut through. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred between: 9-20-11 and 9-23-11. 300 BLOCK EAST 24th STREET Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT Police Officer observed a black Mercury vehicle stop in the middle of the intersection. During the traffic investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol inside the vehicle even as the driver was placing stick after stick of gum into his mouth. As the investigation continued, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver’s minty fresh breath. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests and the driver displayed several clues that indicated he had consumed alcohol, but was not intoxicated. The officer issued the driver a court appearance citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor since he was under the legal age of 21. Occurred on: 9-25-11, at 1:19 AM. 2300 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): A UT Police Officer observed two UT students staggering back and forth in circles. During the investigation, the officer learned the student’s erratic behavior was their attempt to avoid the police. As the investigation continued, the officers detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the students’ breath and learned they were both under the legal age of 21. The student’s were each issued court appearance citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-24-11, at 4:35 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 63 Alarm Calls, 5 Suspicious Activity Reports, 7 Suspicious Person Calls, 5 EMS calls, 2 Burned Out Light Reports, and 9 Unsecured Door Report between 09/23/11 and 09/26/11. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that cover assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
