Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Wednesday, 10/05/11 and Thursday, 10/06/11. National Night Out / Safety Week The UT Police Department and the UT Student Government would like to invite you to Dinner with the Chief. This event is being held inside Jester West Dormitory on the second floor at 5:00 PM. UTPD Chief of Police Robert Dahlstrom will be there to meet and greet the UT Community. CHEMICAL PETROLEUM ENGINEERING BUILDING, 200 East Dean Keeton Theft / Fraud: A blue wallet containing several credit cards, personal identification and $3.00 in cash was stolen after being removed from the front pocket of a backpack. During the investigation, the officer learned several unauthorized charges had been made at several local businesses along Guadalupe. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 10-05-11, between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM. PARKING LOT 99, 2000 Block Red River Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT Police Officer discovered the front driver’s side window of a blue Nissan broken out. The officer noted the face plate to the stereo system was laying on the floorboard and an attempt had been made to remove the stereo from the dash. Estimated damage: $500.00. Occurred on: 10-05-11, between 8:00 AM and 12:32 PM. PARKING LOT 104, 1900 Block North IH35 Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT student discovered the passenger’s side window of a Ford truck broken out and wires sticking out of the truck. During the investigation, the officers were able to contact the registered owner of the vehicle and learned a JVC stereo with a touch screen had been stolen. Loss value: $750.00. Occurred on: 10-05-11, between 7:30 AM and 5:48 PM. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): A UT Police Officer observed four UT students walking along the sidewalk. Two of the students were having a very difficult time maintaining their balance while being supported in an upright position. The officer also noted one student was not wearing any pants. During the investigation, the officer learned the students had been attending a party at the Kappa Kappa Gama house, and the pants optional student had left his dorm room key at the Sigma Chi house, while attending a party there. At this time it is unknown which party the pants had been left at. The officer determined the students were all under the legal age of 21 and two had been consuming adult beverages. Both students were issued a court appearance citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. All of the students were released to a sober friend. Occurred on: 10-06-11, at 1:44 AM. SID RICHARDSON HALL, 2300 Red River Theft: A yellow and black GMC mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the east side of the building after being secured with a U-shaped lock. During the investigation, the officer learned the student had secured the front tire to the bike rack with the U-shaped lock. The tire was still secured. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred between: 9-30-11 and 10-04-11. 2500 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Criminal Trespass Warning / Assist Outside Agency: A UT Police Officer observed a bicyclist committing several traffic violations. During the traffic investigation, the officer soon learned the subject had an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant. The subject was taken into custody. During a search incidental to the non-UT subject’s arrest, the officers discovered the subject was in possession of a small pair of bolt cutters. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-06-11, at 2:32 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 21 Alarm Calls, 3 Suspicious Person Calls, 2 Suspicious Activity Reports, 2 EMS calls, and 3 Unsecured Door Report between 10/05/11 and 10/06/11. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that cover assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community.
