Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 10/06/11 and Monday, 10/10/11. ASHBEL SMITH HALL, 201 West 7th Street Public Intoxication: A UT staff member discovered a UT student and a non-UT subject checking their Cliff notes for Anatomy class. During the investigation, the non-UT subject informed the officers he was dating the student. The student informed the officers they had just met. During the investigation, the officer saw evidence the non-UT subject had encountered an extreme physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol. The subject was wearing the evidence on his pant leg, arm and shirt. The officer also noted other signs of intoxication with the non-UT subject. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication once it was determined the subject was a danger to himself. He was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-08-11, at 3:36 AM. GOLDSMITH HALL, #5 West Mall Theft: UT Police Officers received notification a non-UT subject had stolen a mountain bicycle from the bike racks located on the north side of the building. During the investigation, the officers located the subject riding away from campus. The officers took the subject into custody for Theft and transported him to Central Booking. Recovered value: $1,400.00. Occurred on: 10-07-11, at 7:19 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A black cellular telephone, wallet, personal identification, several credit cards, and $40.00 were reported stolen after being left unattended and unsecure on a bleacher while the victim played basketball. During the investigation, the victim informed the officer, he had seen a large group of students standing around his property, when they left, so did his property. Loss value: $217.00. Occurred on: 10-09-11, between 5:00 PM and 5:55 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: UT staff members discovered a UT student inside a 2nd floor women’s restroom creating a Shamu sized, “Splash Zone.” The student was not responding to them. During the investigation, the officers located the subject and detected a very strong odor of alcohol and the wafting odor of vomit from several feet away. During the investigation, the student did not know where she was, her name, or date of birth. She repeated “3030” when asked questions by the officers. Austin EMS treated the student at the scene and transported her to a local area hospital for additional treatment. Occurred on: 10-08-11, at 2:14 AM. MUSIC RECITAL HALL, 2405 Trinity Ave Theft: A black HTC cellular telephone was reported stolen after being left unattended on a table during an event. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred on: 10-07-11 between 3:00 PM and 3:40 PM. PAINTER HALL, 103 West 24th Street Theft: A black backpack containing a Dell laptop computer, portable hard drive, and art supplies was stolen after being left unsecured and unattended outside the observatory entrance. Loss value: $1535.00. Occurred on: 10-07-11, between 9:00 PM and 9:30 PM. SANCHEZ BUILDING, 1912 Speedway Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member discovered a non-UT subject sleeping on the west side of the building. During the investigation, the officers located the subject inside an established campsite. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 10-08-11 at 5:30 AM. SEAY BUILDING, 108 East Dean Keeton Theft: A black leather purse containing a Samsung cellular telephone personal identification, and several credit cards was reported stolen from an unsecured 1st floor office. Loss value: $551.00. Occurred on: 10-07-11, between 6:15 PM and 6:25 PM. WATSON HOUSE, 500 East 18th Street Criminal Mischief: A UT Police Officer discovered the north gate was broken and was unattached from the wall. Upon further investigation, the officer discovered the storage closet had been broken into. Estimated damage: unknown at this time. Discovered on: 10-09-11, at 9:52 PM. WEST PICKEL RESEARCH CENTER, 3925 West Braker Lane Graffiti: A UT Police Officer discovered words written in black indelible marker inside a first floor restroom. Estimated repair: $50.00. Discovered on: 10-10-11, at 2:30 AM. 200 BLOCK WEST 6th STREET Possession of a Controlled Substance / Public Intoxication / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out on the steps of Claudia Taylor Hall. The subject was wearing the evidence he had an extreme physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol. The subject did not wake up until an ambulance had passed by him with its sirens on. During the investigation the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The officers soon learned the subject had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant. The subject was taken into custody and during a search, incidental to his arrest officers located a purple colored pill that tested positive for a controlled substance. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-09-11, at 3:19 AM. 2000 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Public Intoxication: Two UT students sitting at a table saw a marked police vehicle approaching. One student stood up and fell over the table. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. When asked how much he had drunk the student replied, “A lot.” The student’s girlfriend was with him and the officer determined she was sober and willing to take care, custody and control of her intoxicated boyfriend. Occurred on: 10-09-11, at 2:36 AM. 2400 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Assist Outside Agency: A UT Police Officer observed a UT student inside a red Kia stop at a red light then continued through the intersection before the light turned green. During the traffic investigation, the officer soon learned the student had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant for Theft. The student was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-08-11, at 12:33 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 54 Alarm Calls, 4 Call Box Alarms, 3 Suspicious Person Calls, 5 Suspicious Activity Reports, 5 EMS calls, 2 Burned Out Lights, and 8 Unsecured Door Report between 10/06/11 and 10/10/11. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that cover assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
