Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 10/20/11 and Friday, 10/21/11. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was reported approaching students and asking them for donations so the subject could purchase books for a children’s hospital. During the investigation, the officers located the subject. The subject informed the officers he had not been asking anyone for money, even though the subject was in possession of a receipt book, cash and checks. The subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning and was escorted from campus. Occurred on: 10-20-11, at 2:57 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: This is the second report of a subject asking for donations to purchase books for a children’s hospital. Again, this is a scam. Remember these subjects are only interested in separating you from your money. If you are interested in donating to a charity, donate directly with the charity of your choice. TEXAS SWIM CENTER, 1900 Red River Theft: A black Coach wallet containing personal identification, several credit cards and $10.00 was reported stolen after being left unattended inside a ground level women’s restroom. Loss value: $41.00. Occurred on: 10-20-11, between 8:10 PM and 9:15 PM. 1900 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Public Intoxication / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was observed stumble walking toward Waller Creek and a 10 foot drop off. When asked for his ID, the subject handed the officers a credit card after passing up his Texas DL. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The officers learned the subject had an outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and the outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrant. He was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-21-11, at 2:07 AM. 2300 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a non-UT subject staggering back and forth as he attempted to maintain his balance. The subject ended up sitting down on the curb to prevent himself from falling down. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication, including what was on his shirt. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-21-11, at 2:47 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 23 Alarm Calls, 3 Suspicious Person Call, 2 Suspicious Activity Report, 3 EMS Calls, 2 Welfare calls, 2 Burned Out Light Reports, and 2 Unsecured Door Report between 10/20/11 and 10/21/11. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that cover assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community.
