Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Monday, 10/24/11 and Tuesday, 10/25/11. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Disorderly Conduct- Fighting: A UT staff member observed two non-UT females, holding small children, get into a fight while leaving the building. During the investigation, the officers learned the combatants were in the process of exchanging custody of one child to the other parent when the assault occurred. Once the two females began fighting, their male companions began fighting with each other as well. As the investigation continued, the officers issued each combatant a court appearance citation for Disorderly Conduct- Fighting. Occurred on: 10-24-11, at 10:33 PM. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Criminal Trespass: A UT staff member observed a non-UT subject climbing over the barricade separating the seating section from the stage and ring area. The subject was attempting to gain access to the ring. The subject was stopped and told to return to her seat. The subject made a second attempt to gain access to the ring by climbing over the barricade. The UT staff member and event security ejected her from the event. During the investigation, the subject stated she did not intend to leave the event since she had purchased three tickets. A uniformed UT Police Officer informed the subject she needed to leave the building. Again she refused and informed the officer she was going to call 911. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-24-11, at 8:20 PM. It is unknown if she called 911 from jail. PARKING LOT 41, 2200 Red River Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT student discovered the passenger window of a Honda broken out. During the investigation, the officers were unable to contact the registered owner of the vehicle to see if any property was missing. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Discovered on: 10-24-11, at 9:25 AM. PARKING LOT 80, 1900 Red River Suspicious Activity: A non-UT subject reported observing two non-UT subjects arguing. One subject was pulling on the other subject’s arms begging him to go back into the FEC. During the investigation, the officers located both subjects and learned the female subject was upset with her boyfriend because he had gone to an event with his ex-wife. Neither subject assaulted the other, and both admitted they had been arguing. Occurred on: 10-24-11, at 9:10 PM. PETER T. FLAWN ACADEMIC CENTER, #2 West Mall Disorderly Conduct- Lewd Conduct: A UT student walked into a 2nd floor men’s restroom. An unknown subject was standing at the sink. When the student entered the restroom the unknown subject turned to face the student, exposing himself. The unknown subject was described as: White or Middle Eastern male, dark complexion, 20 years of age, and 5’-10”. The subject was last seen wearing a UT ball cap, blue t-shirt, and black tennis shoes. The responding officers searched the area with negative results. Occurred on: 10-24-11, at 10:50 AM. INTRAMURAL FIELDS, 4901 Guadalupe Theft: A UT staff member discovered a unknown subject had entered onto the property and had removed approximately 250 gallons of gasoline from a storage unit. Loss value: $675.00. Occurred on: 10-23-11, at 9:15 PM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 20 Alarm Calls, 2 Suspicious Person Call, 1 Suspicious Activity Report, 2 EMS Calls, 1 Fire Call, 2 Welfare calls, and 3 Unsecured Door Report between 10/24/11 and 10/25/11. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that cover assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community.
