Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 11/04/11 and Monday, 11/07/11. SCAM ALERT The campus has recently experienced a greater number of targeted phishing attacks. Attackers are constantly working to evade our anti-phishing defenses so that they can trick you into providing them with your sensitive personal information (e.g., passwords, account details). Some are even targeting your research data by encouraging you to run software that provides attackers with a backdoor to your system. Seventeen faculty/staff members fell victim to such phishing attacks in October -- up from 2 incidents in September. Please visit the following site to understand how you can defend yourself from these persistent attacks: Don't Get Hooked: Protect Yourself Against Phishing Scams http://www.utexas.edu/its/secure/articles/dont_get_hooked.php Contact the Information Security Office (security@utexas.edu or 512-475-9242) should you have any questions or concerns.
