Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 11/10/11 and Friday, 11/11/11. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A black Apple iPhone was reported stolen after being left unattended. During the investigation, the officer learned the victim was unsure if her property had been taken at PCL or at another location. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred on: 11-10-11. W.C. HOGG, 120 Inner Campus Dr. Criminal Mischief: A UT student witnessed three college age males putting an unknown brown substance onto the exterior handle of three doors. The unknown subjects were described as: White male, wearing a grey hoodie, Asian male with slicked back hair. No description given on the third subject. Estimated repair: $100.00. Occurred on: 11-10-11, at 2:04 PM. 200 BLOCK WEST 6th STREET Public Intoxication / Assault: UT Police Officers responded to a report of a subject that had been assaulted by another subject who was hiding in an alley. Responding officers located the subject hiding behind a dumpster and a parked car. The subject stated he became upset when his partner received a text message from another suitor. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. No charges for Assault were filed. Occurred on: 11-10-11, at 11:45 PM. 2200 BLOCK SAN ANTONIO Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed two UT students staggering in the roadway and along the sidewalk. Both students nearly fell into the bushes as they came to the corner of an intersection. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breaths of both students and noted other signs of intoxication. Both students were taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-11-11, at 1:51 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 22 Alarm Calls, 1 Suspicious Activity Report, 2 Suspicious Person Reports between 11/10/11 and 11/11/11. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. RAD Program For Women, Now Available (Classes are FREE) Advanced RAD Classes Being Held for RAD Class Graduates The RAD program is a 16-hour course of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that cover assault prevention and risk reduction while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training. http://www.utexas.edu/police/rad/ Defensive Driving: Learn Defensive Driving from a UTPD Police Officer. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
