Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: I received several emails from parents expressing their concerns about walking, jogging or running on campus or throughout the City of Austin. Many of these concerns have been based upon events reported in the local news. It is never a good idea to walk by yourself, always walk in groups. Stay off of your cellular phones, just like driving this is a distraction. You are not being aware of what is going on around you. Know the route that you are taking, don't take shortcuts through an area. At night stay on well lighted pathways. If the lights are burned out notify the City of Austin at 512-974-5000. Alcohol can become an issue. An intoxicated person can be looked upon as a very easy target by a criminal. If you are intending to drink know your limits and don't exceed those limits. Plan on taking a sober friend with you. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 21 Alarm Calls, 2 Suspicious Activity Report, 2 EMS Calls, 3 Suspicious Person Reports, and 3 Unsecured Doors between 11/14/11 and 11/15/11.
