Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 12/15/11 and Friday, 12/16/11. ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE It is that time of the year. It is time for you to submit your favorite Campus Watch entry or entries. We are beginning the process of selecting the Best Of for 2011. DIVERSITY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT CENTER, 1009 East 11st Street Public Intoxication / Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT staff member discovered a non-UT subject attempting to sleep inside an interior stairwell. The subject was refusing to leave the area and insisted the DCE staff notify the UT Police Department. During the investigation, the officers located the subject and observed an empty 24-oz can of Earthquake High Gravity laying beside the subject. The non-UT subject rolled over and informed the officers that he had drank all of the beer. The officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. When asked for his identification, the subject identified himself as the “Iceman” and would fight anyone that came near him. Due to his intoxication level, the subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to the Cooler i.e.Central Booking, not the Ice House. In addition to the law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a written Criminal Trespass Warning for the area. Occurred on: 12-15-11, at 9:04 AM. TOWNS HALL, 727 East Dean Keeton Theft: A black and white Sportster P45 Hybrid bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the building after being secured with a U-shaped lock. During the investigation, the officer learned the cross pole support bar on the bicycle rack was bent. The bend allowed the criminal to simply slip the secured bike off of the rack. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred between: 12-12-11 and 12-13-11. Crime Prevention Tip: If you see a damaged bicycle rack, first do not secure your property there. It is not uncommon for a thief to modify or tamper with the racks, then wait for an unsuspecting victim to “secure” their bike. Notify Parking and Transportation at 512-471-PARK to report the damaged rack. 600 BLOCK COLORADO STREET Assault with Bodily Injury / Criminal Mischief / Public Intoxication: A UT staff member observed two non-UT females being harassed by a non-UT male. The suspect walked away when the staff member, approached the group, and offered his assistance. The responding officers located the suspect several blocks away and stopped him. During the investigation, the officers learned the two females had asked the suspect for directions. The suspect pinned one of the females in a “bear hug” and began kissing her. The second female dropped her cellular telephone as she attempted to call 911. The suspect picked up the cell phone and destroyed it by throwing it against a wall. The suspect was taken into custody for Assault with Bodily Injury / Criminal Mischief / Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 12-16-11, at 2:56 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: I pose a question to you. A person grabs you and puts you into a “Bear Hug”, what do you do? For the 5000 women that had graduated from the UT Rape Aggression Defense classes they already know the answer to this question and they have a plan of action.
