Report for 02/14/2012

Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Monday, 02/13/12 and Tuesday, 02/14/12. ***** ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE ***** A great number of students are of the mindset the University of Texas had lifted its ban on skateboarding / long boarding / roller skating / rollerblading on campus. That is not the case. For more information on skateboarding / long boarding / roller skating / rollerblading rules visit Parking and Transportation’s website at: http://www.utexas.edu/parking/rules/sec4.html GOLDSMITH HALL, 310 Inner Campus Dr. Theft / Criminal Trespass: The UT Police Department received information a non-UT subject had removed a mountain bicycle from the bike racks located on the south side of the building. During the investigation, the officer located the bicycle as well as the suspect at the intersection of 5th Street and Red River. The subject was taken into custody for theft. As the investigation continued, the officers soon learned the subject had been given a prior Criminal Trespass Warning. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Additional charges for Criminal Trespass were filed. Recovered loss value: $1,350.00. Occurred on: 2-13-12, at 8:26 PM. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Theft: A grey Specialized mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the dormitory after being secured with a U-shaped lock and a self locking cable lock. During the investigation, the officers discovered the victim had secured his quick release tire to the rack with the U-lock. The tire was still secured. However, the self-locking cable lock was found cut. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred between: 2-10-12 and 2-13-12. Crime Prevention Tip: We are seeing more and more students using a two lock locking system. The two-lock locking system is very effective when properly utilized. The system requires the U-shaped locked to be used to secure the bike frame to the bike rack. Securing the tire does not secure the frame. The self-locking cable lock secures the rear tire to the bike frame. 2300 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A UT Police Officer observed a non-UT subject staggering back and forth in the middle of Guadalupe with traffic coming towards him in both directions. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and noted other signs of intoxication. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 2-13-12, at 10:36 PM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 12 Alarm Calls, 2 Unsecured Door Reports between 02/13/12 and 02/14/12.
