Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Thursday, 03/01/12 and Friday, 03/02/12. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A Non-UT Subject reported her cell phone stolen. She set her phone down while she was using a public computer. Loss Value: $150.00. Occurred on: 03-01-12, between 12:00 PM and 12:20 PM. Theft: A UT Student reported her cell phone stolen. She set her phone down while she was using a public computer. Loss Value: $600.00. Occurred on: 03-01-2012, between 6:30 PM and 6:40 PM. NORTH OFFICE BUILDING A, 101 East 27th Street Harassment: A UT staff member reported receiving several harassing telephone calls. Reported on: 03-01-12, at 5:00 PM. BEAUFORD H. JESTER CENTER – CITY LIMITS, 201 East 21st Street Forgery: Counterfeit U.S. Currency: While UT Staff Members were counting money at the end of the day, a counterfeit ten dollar bill was discovered. It was used sometime during the day in the food court. Reported on: 03-01-2012, at 7:34 PM. 10000 Block of IH-35 Driving While Intoxicated: A UT Police Officer stopped a vehicle. The Non-UT Driver committed several traffic violations. She was found to be under the influence of prescription drugs. EMS transported her to the hospital of her choice. A warrant was written for her arrest. Occurred on 03-01-2012, at 11:20 PM. 300 Block of Inner Campus Drive Criminal Trespass: A UT Police Officer observed a Non-UT Subject sitting on a bench. The subject was yelling, out loud, to himself. The officer stopped to check on the subject’s well being. The subject informed the officer that he had received prior criminal trespass warnings for the UT Campus. The subject was taken into custody for criminal trespass and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on 03-01-2012, at 11:22 PM. LITTLEFIELD CARRIAGE HOUSE, 2410 Whitis Avenue Criminal Trespass: A Non-UT Subject was found sleeping on the northeast side of LCH. The subject had a prior criminal trespass warning. He was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 03-02-2012, at 12:19 AM. BEAUFORD H. JESTER CENTER, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: UT Police Officers responded to a smell of Marijuana call at a Jester West dorm room. The UT Student allowed the officers into his room and consented to a search. The officers found a small zip lock bag with a few trace amounts of Marijuana. The UT Student advised that he and his friend had been smoking Marijuana earlier in the day and that they did not have any left over. Occurred on 03-02-2012, at 12:15 AM. 1600 Block of Red River Street Public Intoxication: A UT Student was observed staggering on the east sidewalk, heading north on the 1600 block of Red River. The student was tripping and could not maintain his balance. He stated he had been drinking at a bar on 10th Street. His clothing was disarranged and his eyes were bloodshot. He had an odor of alcohol on his breath. The student stated he could not wave down a cab because he did not have any money. He was taken into custody for public intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on 03-02-2012, at 2:02 AM. San Jacinto Residence Hall, 309 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and Possession of a Fictitious Driver License: A UT Student, under the age of 21, was found unconscious on the 5th floor. He woke up after several attempts to gain his attention. A strong odor of alcohol was emanating from the student’s breath. He was unable to identify himself. As the officer looked through his wallet, for his ID, a “drinking” ID was found with his own Texas Driver License. The student was unable to remain conscious or in a seated position without assistance. EMS transported him to a hospital. Occurred on 03-02-2012, at 3:03 AM. UT PARKING LOT 103, 2100 Comal Street Criminal Mischief (2), Public Intoxication (1), and Failure to Identify (1): A UTPD Security Guard reported that he witnessed 2 UT Students jumping on vehicles and breaking off a mirror on one of the vehicles in the parking lot. When the UT Police Officer arrived on scene, he observed a UT Student jumping on the rear end of a car. One of the under aged students had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath and was uneasy while walking. He stated he had been drinking a little while he was downtown. The other student failed to identify himself. They were both taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on 03-02-2012, at 3:04 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 16 Alarm Calls, 1 Unsecured Door Report, 1 Lost and Found Property Report, and 2 EMS Calls between 03/01/12 and 03/02/12. Registering your property is very helpful in theft investigations and in returning lost property to its rightful owner. SURE Walk is a student-run volunteer group that provides walks to and from campus to UT students, faculty, and staff, with the help of student volunteers. Volunteers are gathered from trusted organizations from around campus, such as Orange Jackets and APO, and include both males and females. An agency of Student Government, SURE Walk is in service Monday through Thursday from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. during the fall and spring semesters. To order a walk, call (512) 232-9255 or email orderasurewalk@gmail.com, and two volunteers, one male and one female, will meet you at your current location and walk you to your destination, whether it be on campus or in the greater campus neighborhoods. Please report your missing property to UTPD Lost and Found at http://www.utexas.edu/police/lostandfound. Or call 512-232-9619 and describe your item to us. If we have your item, we’ll contact you as quickly as possible to arrange its return to you. UTPD handles over 5000 lost and found items each year from campus departments, although we cannot accept clothing, food or drink containers, toiletries, broken or soiled property. Campus departments are encouraged to call 471-4441 to have UTPD pick up lost and found items that are unclaimed after one week. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks.
