Campus Watch: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department between Friday, 05/25/12 and Tuesday, 05/29/12. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Suspicious Activity: Two UT students reported observing an unknown subject roaming the 4th floor. The subject was seen peeking out from one of the dormitory rooms. The unknown subject was described as: Older male, 40 years of age, light complexion, with white hair. Subject was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. Occurred on: 5-25-12, at 3:19 PM. MEZES HALL, 154 West 21st Street Burglary: A UT staff member discovered an unknown subject had entered into a secured 3rd floor office and removed a Dell laptop computer and projector. During the investigation, the officer did not observe any signs of forced entry. Loss value: $620.00. Occurred between: 5-22-12 and 5-24-12. MIKE MYERS STADIUM, 707 Clyde Littlefield Theft: A non-UT subject discovered $250.00 in cash had been removed from an unsecured cashbox. During the investigation, the officer learned the cashbox had been left unattended for 5 minutes while the vender had stepped away. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred on: 5-25-12, between 6:00 PM and 6:05 PM. PARKING LOT 108, 1500 Red River Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was discovered inside a restricted area. The subject informed the officers he wanted to take pictures of a subject inside the FEC. After being told several times photography was banned due to the event, the subject was issued a Criminal Trespass Warning and escorted from the area. A short time later, officers observed the subject again attempting to take photographs within the restricted area. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 5-25-12, at 1:54 PM. 300 BLOCK MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD. Failure to Identify: A UT Police Officer observed a black Chrysler disregard a red light. During the traffic investigation, the non-UT driver informed the officer she had lost her driver’s license the day before. When asked for her name, the driver provided a name and date of birth. After several attempts to confirm her identity, the officer determined the name and date of birth was false. After confirming her true identity, the subject was issued a court appearance citation for Failure to Identify. The driver told the officer she was fearful that she had an outstanding warrant. Occurred on: 5-25-12, at 9:00 PM. 1900 BLOCK TRINITY Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT staff member discovered the driver’s side window of her Toyota had been shattered. Upon closer inspection of her vehicle, the staff member saw her in dash AM/FM/CD stereo had been ripped out of the dash. Loss value: $100.00. Estimated damage: $250.00. Occurred on: 5-25-12, between 6:00 AM and 2:15 PM. 2500 BLOCK RED RIVER Public Intoxication / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping next to the Indoor Practice Facility. The officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath and soon learned the subject was in fact passed out. After several attempts, the subject was able to wake up. Due to the effects of the transporting elixir, the subject insisted he was on Spicewood Springs Road. Austin EMS treated the subject at the scene and transported him to a local area hospital for additional treatment. After being released at the hospital, the subject was taken into custody for two outstanding Outside Agency arrest warrants for Parole Violation. Occurred on: 5-29-12, at 1:47 AM. The University of Texas Police Department responded to 79 Alarm Calls, 4 Suspicious Activity reports, 1 Suspicious Person report, 1 Medical call, 1 Burned Out Light Report, 6 unsecured door report, between 05/25/12 and 05/29/12. Registering your property is very helpful in theft investigations and in returning lost property to its rightful owner. SURE Walk is a student-run volunteer group that provides walks to and from campus to UT students, faculty, and staff, with the help of student volunteers. Volunteers are gathered from trusted organizations from around campus, such as Orange Jackets and APO, and include both males and females. An agency of Student Government, SURE Walk is in service Monday through Thursday from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. during the fall and spring semesters. To order a walk, call (512) 232-9255 or email orderasurewalk@gmail.com, and two volunteers, one male and one female, will meet you at your current location and walk you to your destination, whether it be on campus or in the greater campus neighborhoods. Please report your missing property to UTPD Lost and Found at http://www.utexas.edu/police/lostandfound. Or call 512-232-9619 and describe your item to us. If we have your item, we’ll contact you as quickly as possible to arrange its return to you. UTPD handles over 5000 lost and found items each year from campus departments, although we cannot accept clothing, food or drink containers, toiletries, broken or soiled property. Campus departments are encouraged to call 471-4441 to have UTPD pick up lost and found items that are unclaimed after one week. Emergency Text Message Service The University of Texas at Austin and its police department are responsible for notifying faculty, staff, and students of emergency situations (e.g., inclement weather, building evacuations, campus closures, etc.). The University employs a wide variety of tools to make sure everyone on campus is informed during an emergency event—including text messaging. In order to accomplish emergency text messaging more effectively, the University is collecting cell phone numbers from members of our campus community. Effective August 26, 2009, this database of cell phone numbers will be used for emergency text messages. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license. BCAL provides a central resource for UT faculty, students, and staff who may have concerns about the behavior or well-being of another member of the campus community. By calling BCAL at 512-232-5050, callers may talk with trained staff members who will assist the caller in exploring available options and strategies as well as referrals to appropriate campus support networks.
